Title: Victor Wooten In Dallas
Post by: olieoliver on February 10, 2008, 06:56:44 AM
I caught Victors show at the HOB in Dallas Thursday night. Victors is flat out cool that's all there is to it.
Great show, the sound wasn't real good but the venue had more to do with that than anything else.
Anthony Wellington was playing bass with him too and that cat has some great chops as well.
If you get a chance to see him and haven't before, I highly recommend it.

On a side note, I was looking over Victor's web site and was checking out his gear page. I found this statement to pretty interesting. (Victor listing his other basses.
I also have quite a few other basses that I use from time to time. They include a new Fodera 6-string Monarch, a NYC 4-string, Kubicki Factor, Keith Roscoe 5-String, an Alembic Series 1 (my first 'good' bass), Ken Lawrence nylon-string tenor, a Nechville Banjo Bass', and a couple of upright acoustic basses.

I'd have to agree with him about his first 'good' bass.

I apologize for my typo in the title, Wootten oops. I meant Wooten.

Dave if you could correct that for me I would be grateful.

I've seen him with the Flecktones and with his own band; very different shows, both quite enjoyable.

And yes, when I say him fronting his own band, the bass was lost and muffled in the PA mix until just after the second set started.  Then it was as if someone else had taken over the board, and Victor's bass sounded great the rest of the evening.

From Mica's post on Keavin's link...
Victor's dad bought him a Series I when he was 13 years old
When I was about 13 my dad helped my choose some wood from my grandad's timber supply and encouraged me to get a part time job so I could afford the parts needed to build my first bass;-(

I've only seen Victor with the Flecktones and I much prefer that setting to his solo albums.

This isn't the Dallas show, BUT!, this is a good solo. Tasteful, articulate, dynamic, melodic and just plain ol? nice to listen to.

The title is misleading though.

I caught Victor's show in Greenville, SC last night.  Great show!  Victor's technique is so interesting and right on!  The band was sharp as could be including Reggie and Joe Wooten.  I had the pleasure of seeing it from the sound booth and meeting the band afterwards.  Thanks for a great show!

I've got my tickets for March, 28th. Saw him this past fall with the Flecktones and he was great.

Personally, I think he has a very nice tone.  For instance, I think that this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CR6t47pV8Qc) sounds pretty good.

And this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXHOyqHzupk) sounds pretty nice as well.

So, I'm thinking maybe you're not missing anything; but perhaps it's just that people have different perceptions of beauty.

Or perhaps you're listening through computer speakers; that could be it!
