My son spent a s**t load of money last week on one of these..I think it is the most recent version with 8 foot switches, multiple edit controls etc, anyway he bought it last Wednesday(9/4) and last night(13/4) the signal began to break up.
Changed the mic, the lead, the amp but it was still doing it, it's not clipping at the indicator.
Needless to say he is going back to the store where he bought it this morning but has anyone out there who has used one/have one had this trouble.
It was a very expensive piece of kit(?475) and for it be faulty after 4 days and not even gigged is a bit much.

I use and sell that product. It is awesome. It sounds like you got a bad one. I've sold three of them in the last month and had no complaints on it. So, my theory, is you got one that was made on a monday or a friday.

I find myself on the fence about units like this. These type of magic boxes seem to be blurring the line between live human performance, and listening to a record ... umm ... I mean a CD .. oops ... maybe an MP3 (allright, I'm old!). In some ways, this seems different only to a matter of degree from hooking up an Ipod to the P.A. and playing it while you strap on your guitar and jump around in time to the music. I mean, if you can't sing on key, is it artistically honest to have a machine do it for you? Are stompboxes that correct your wrong guitar or bass notes just around the corner? I guess so, seeing as we already have a Les Paul that tunes itself. Heck, why not a player guitar like a player piano? Something about this just doesn't feel right. Just my $0.02.

Alembic Doctor..well the guy at the store just about said the same thing so a new one is on its way.
It is a great piece of kit, my son has a great voice and has recorded harmonies over himself with his band, he is going to use this for live stuff, he already put's one mike through a Korg Kaos pad, the othe mike will go thru the TC unit as well as playing a Korg keyboard..he is heavily influenced my Bjork and Mike Patton(ex Faith No More)
It has all sorts of reverb and delay etc on it so it can add these effects individually as opposed at the mixing desk.
I can see you point Bill but you still have to sing through it and believe me it doesn't make a bad singer sound better..in fact it makes them sound worse..I cannot sing to save my life and it did not improve me at all!!!!
Anyway thanks for input, he hopes to get a brand new one this week end

Meh,people say pretty much the same thing about every new piece of music technology. Remember how the mellotron was going to kill the orchestra? Or the same for the synthesizer? I seriously doubt a harmonizer will ever replace a human chorus, but it does add another tool to your arsenal.

Are stompboxes that correct your wrong guitar or bass notes just around the corner?

uh, just thought i'd say mike patton is pretty much amazing. check out his work with john zorn. it's completely insane.

I hate the Patton/John Zorn stuff. I got the giant Naked City box set a year or two ago. Four hours of Patton screaming like a retard over atonal jazz. Great.

Right. Well, for me, it's pretty incredible. Zorn is a genius.
edit: I was just thinking, and I'm pretty sure it's mostly Yamatsuka Eye doing the screaming with naked city, and that's just what he does: scream.
Either way, I'm sure Zorn appreciates your money, hb3. :]

Each to their own, some of the Patton stuff my son listens to I cannot handle but some is pretty good, I was blown away by Atlas by Battles when I first heard it. So I guess it is to individuals taste
Hydragyrum..well I agree with you, we all thought backing tapes, MIDI files and karaoke would kill live bands but it hasnt(most probably done us a favour!!)

I remember hearing this incredible, hard jazz in a club long ago...very aggressive, dark, well-played...I asked the sound guy what it was, and he said, John Zorn. I was so excited to hear stuff like this on the Naked City set...and there was nothing like it at all. Weird. I bought a few of the newer CDs -- I can't remember the name, but it's the Judaic stuff, and some of that was pretty good. In the Mountains of Madness was pretty good.
