I found it kind of odd no one had commented on Esbjorn Svensson's passing yet.
Esbjorn was a great pianist and a leader of a trio (E.S.T.) that many would consider a priceless and timeless addition to the European jazz scene, and the jazz scene in general.
He died Saturday in a diving accident. Another musician gone too early at the age of 44.
If you've never checked EST out, do yourself a favor and do so as soon as you can.

Tragic... Another soul creating such beauty will be missed.

Wow I didn't know that he had passed away I have two of their CD's and have played their music many times on my Jazz radio programme.
He was a phenomenal player and the band had a fantastically unique sound.
I will try to sort out a tribute programme to him on my programme soon.
Any good links would be greatly appreciated.

Jazzyvee; there is a bit of a bio at their website here (http://www.est-music.com/). There is a remembrance at All About Jazz here (http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=29803); and a very nice interview here (http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=15579). There's a concert review at Jazz Police here (http://www.jazzpolice.com/content/view/6114/53/).

Ethan Iverson wrote a little bit about The Bad Plus double billing with EST over at his blog (which is always worth reading)

Thanks Austin! I like what he says about the band concept and about live sound. Nice article!

I wasn't familiar with The Bad Plus, so I youtubed. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZBer-pSaLI) is really nice!

not to digress too far, but the bad plus is, in my opinion, the best and most creative band on the scene right now. if you ever get a chance to see them live, do it. they're playing a show in nyc with kurt rosenwinkel on tuesday, and i will definitely be there. dave king (the drummer) has another band called happy apple that's pretty incredible, too.
