Amazing what age does to you. Im 40 now, and there are things that I can't do anymore because if the physical/mental side effects, and other things that I realized are just foolish. Here are some of mine:
1) LSD
2) getting drunk to the point that the room is spinning
3) Backpacking alone in the wilderness
4) Allow people to waste my time
Im sure there are more, but those are the tops of my list.

Allowed myself to own just one bass!
foolish youth......
-
I held myself back with shyness and self-doubt - not that it doesn't happen sometimes now too, but I feel like at 37 I have a bit more perspective and try and just go for it more.

Great topic Greg. I used to do #1 every weekend... not sure why I stopped!!! Our 20th Anniversary party is tonight, so my wife and I will be doing #2 (that doesn't sound right does it?)tonight. We got BEARS here in East Tennessee, so no #3. #4 is a biggie for me as well. Harry points out a character that I have definitely developed over the years. In my work, I always assumed that I was wrong if someone disagreed with me. Over the years I realized that oftentimes I was right or there was just more than 1 approach to the issue at hand. I'm always willing to listen to alternate viewpoints, but now you have to prove to me that I am wrong.

Getting back from a gig early sunday morning, when the dawn is just breaking & thinking 'it's not worth going to bed, i'll sleep tonight' 10 years back i wouldn't think twice, but now at 40 with a 2 year old daughter, it's impossible...

LSD is just to ucontrollable for me. I do enjoy a mushroom now and than though....getting drunk just takes too much of a physical and mental toll on me anymore, and I am pretty much worthless for the next 24 hours or so afterwards.
I spent my 20's living in Missoula MT, and did ALOT of solo backpacking out there, sometimes even in griz areas. Never thought twice about it. Went back there two years ago and did some solo stuff, but made sure I was not in known griz areas.
Even though I do enjoy being alone in the wilderness, these days I doubt I would ever go solo like that again. Besides wildlife, there are just too many other things that can happen.
#4 (people wasting my time), is a big pet peeve of mine.
Mike, I also always assumed I wrong if people disagreed with me also, Ive adopted the same viewpoint you have now.

screwing fat chicks.........every time i did one she had a freakin baby now child support is killing my blackass!!!

Im still young and in college (UVM), but I agree with Greg, the drinking I can do without, it wears you thin, and I do not like letting people waste my time.
LSD and mushrooms however... lets just say my Series 1 guitar never ceases to melt my face clear off my head. The sound dribbles out of those low pass filters like liquid!!
One thing I do regret about the past though is wasting A LOT of money on countless guitars and basses before I realized Alembics were all I would ever truly need

I smoked WAY too much pot, drank WAY too much Tequila and skipped WAY too much school to do both.
The only one I miss is school.

I can only say I didn't do it....nobody saw me do it...and you can't prove anything!
I thought I longed for the good old days, then I realized these ARE the good old days
Ageaphobics Anonymous intro: Hi I'm Roger, and I'm a 41 year old. I've been 41 for 27 days now...

Follow-up: Our Anniversary party was last night. The music was blasting, the drinks were flowing, we were doing the white man overbite, and all was good. Then we started doing Tequila shooters. The room started spinning and the wife started puking. We crawled home and laid in bed with 1 foot on the floor and heads throbbing to the beat of our hearts. When I woke up this morning I was feeling every day of my 46 years. I had a blast, but I think I'll wait another 20 years before I do that again.

I am 64 now so I cannot remember all the foolish things I have done but here are a few I can remember.
1. Never share a fighting hole with anyone braver than me.
2.Never scuba dive at night in shark infested waters.
3.Never argue with a woman
4.Stay at least 100 miles away from my ex wife,{see # 2.}
5.Never light a fuse that has a burning rate faster than my ability to clear the area.

Tequila and I came to an understanding several years ago. I leave it alone and it leaves me alone. That stuff is evil.

Take myself too seriously..

Nice answer John ;-) I used to save (for a riany day perhaps?). Nowadays life is so expensive I don't have the spare cash to put away ;-(
Means I'm waiting for a lump sum pension payment from a previous employer to pay for my intended 50th birthday trip (and possible custom order) to the mothership.

p.s. the other thing I don't do now is slide down the side of the local pit-heap (mining spoil heap) on a tea tray ;-)

Ride my motorcycle when I'm hammered.

I disapear and I stumble on this thread!!! :rofl See Flax's above comment!
There is not a whole lot I have ever done that I wouldn't do again once in awhile, and I do since I still travel and see a lot of music... Though if I had to pick one it would be picking fights with people much bigger than me.. :shakeing head for long lost stupidity
