Title: Asking for Donations
Post by: flaxattack on September 15, 2008, 11:33:18 PM
Dear Friends,

My life partner Annie's daughter Kimi has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. It was so bad at the beginning that she spent 2 weeks in icu at the univ of md hospital and at one point almost bought the farm.

Since I am so fortunate to be Kimi's unofficial idiot bastard step dad and she is my co pilot when she comes here and we go fishing ; i am asking for your help.
Kims only 18 and hopefully a cure will be found one day. She is on medication that is controlling her symptoms and she?s feeling pretty good right now, but unless a cure can be found she will have a lifetime of medications, flare-ups, and possible surgeries to look forward to.  There are over 1.4 million Americans suffering with Crohn?s and colitis, 10% of which are kids under the age of 18.

Annie has committed to walk the 13.1 mile Miami half marathon on January 25 in support of the Crohn?s & Colitis Foundation of America.

Please help support this worthy cause by giving generously to help fund Crohn?s and ulcerative colitis research.  We have committed to raising $4,000, so we really need your help!  Please visit annie's web page at

to donate online or mail your donation (payable to Crohn?s & Colitis Foundation of America) directly to me at 8 McAllister Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854.  Your contribution is 100% tax deductible.  If your company matches charitable contributions, please include matching forms with your donation.  Also, please forward this information to anyone you know who may be willing to help.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

Annie and Jeff

Jeff and Annie,
It's a good cause...I've been dealing with Crohn's disease for years and for what it it's worth...acupuncture and TCM have helped immensely in my comfort level...and my outlook for the future.

...sending healing thoughts to Kimi,

kris

LOL ! just wait another few hours, Jeff...

recently, I haven't had the time to come here daily to check the new posts, so I was a little late on responding. Perhaps this holds true for other members as well...

If you haven't met your target by Monday, I would say: YES, flaxinate 'em all !

I'm guessing that most of you are probably getting tons of requests for donations to charitable and political organizations right now.  And it is likely that you are unable to fulfill the requests of all of the organizations that you would like to support.  But not only is this a good and worthy cause, but the organization is here being represented by one of our own members, and his activism in this cause is motivated by the immediacy of this disease to his own family.  So in looking at the charitable gifts you were planning to make this year anyway, please consider putting this one on the list; and if it's within your short-term budget to do so, make your gift now so Jeff's family can make their fund raising goal.  Of course many of us are just not in a position to make a contribution to any organizations this year, and that's understandable.  But we are a large community, and this is our community working together.  So if you are able to, please consider making your contribution today.

Current total:  $1,600
Goal:  $4,000

Thanks,
David

Around my little part of the world, a lot of the musicians stage fundraising shows at the local Elks, etc. hall. They are usually well attended, everyone has a good time and quite often exceed the goal.

Best of luck,
-JP

I'll receive my salary at the end of the month (or the beginning of the next month) and I'll be able to donate.

My thoughts are with you and your loved ones, Jeff - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Kimi.

This really does take less than 2 minutes to do!

For those of us than can't contribute monetarily, we can at least do this.

We're currently at $1,850; if we can get a few $10 and $20 donations, that will get us to halfway.  That's the cost of two or three drinks at the bar this weekend; and this will make you feel better and will last longer.
