Title: For my fellow gun nuts, and anyone who likes walnut...

This is a 1942 Winchester-made M1 Garand that has been restored and re-stocked in Bastogne Walnut.

Vann, it was done at Dean's Gun Restoration.  His motto is, Life's to short to shoot an ugly gun!

Check out some of the fancy maple ones!

Bastogne Walnut is so underrated. In lumber form it's hard to appreciate, but it's sublime when finished. For the wood nuts, Bastogne Walnut is a natural hybrid of the native California Walnut and European Walnut.

was that built from a CMP rifle?

Mica, do you use any Bastogne for instruments?  These pics don't do it justice.  The flame on the butt and the handguard is mesmerizing.

Greg, yes, it was a CMP rifle. Service grade, I believe.  I bought it from the gentleman who had it built.  He's thinking about letting his maple one go, too.  I'm trying to figure out what I can sell! :-)

Very nice.

I find this strange that the previous thread is about our new african-american president elect & the very next thread is about a high powered rifle???......

Ha!
Keavin, you ain't old enough to have Oswald flashbacks!  Plus, Oswald used a POS Italian Carcano.  With a scope, no less.  That's almost insulting to compare the two! :-)

OK, I kind of see your edited point there.  Totally unrelated, though.  This thread is REALLY about Bastogne walnut, which happens to be in the form of a rifle stock. And they weren't right next to each other when they started.

Peace,
Charles

By coincidence, yesterday I read about a Taylor guitar made of Bastogne Walnut...

It's pretty, but worth significantly less than with the original wood.
