Title: Gram
Post by: David Houck on November 05, 2010, 07:57:34 PM
My sister just reminded me that today is Gram Parsons' birthday.  She and I have always been fans of Gram Parsons; so it was nice that she IM'd to remind me of his birthday!

Happy Birthday Gram; and thanks for all the wonderful music!

Here's a little Gram (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4oLlg6FxXs) for ya'.  Don't do it all at once.  It's a twofer, so don't quit too early.  The second tune is one of my all time favorites; back when I used to try to sing, I loved singing this song.

Here's a song that my old band wrote about Gram, which also turned out to the title track to our CD:

Yes, he had a few reckless habits.

Edwin, I like that tune .  I like the musicianship  all around. All good players  . Your chops tie it together just right. Love that steel player too .

Wolf; I'm thinking that's Barry Sless, who's also played with Phil Lesh, David Nelson, and many others.

Edwin, What Bass were you playing in the recording?

That was Barry on the steel and Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth playing fiddle. I was playing my modified '67 Starfire.

It was a really fun record to make! I didn't the bass was represented as well as it could have, but it's not a bass-centric record.

Live from Northern Quebec medley - thanks Dave!  I recall playing in a hotel in Fort Coulonge, Quebec, and one of the patrons obligingly broke a glass during the intro to Hickory Wind...it was, well, fantastic.

Always loved that album.
