Title: Another West Texas Fandango - Big Bend

I have become enamored with West Texas, the Big Bend area in particular..  Over the week of Thanksgiving (US) I drove the Jeep out with a small dual-sport motorcycle hanging off the back, and took in some lovely desert sights..  Pics and light narrative here:

It's amazing to me that places like Kerrville and Alpine, which used to be as remote as the little towns in the Australian Outback are now turning into artist enclaves and retirement areas.  West Texas in a lot of ways can be like the dark side of the moon with billboards.  But it is the Great Wide Open.  Any of you who've seen the Cohens' 'No Country for Old Men' will get a sense of the space and scope of the place.
 
Looks like a great trip!  As a backslidden Texan, I can certainly agree, 'It's like a whole 'nother country'.

I always enjoy your photo journeys.... I read 'em cover to cover.  My wife's sister lives in Wichita, so I made the drive up 54 from Tucumcari through Texas, the panhandle of Oklahoma and through Kansas to get there.  Nearly splattered a deer at about 4am on the drive home somewhere near Bucklin, KS too.   Your bumper and grill didn't look too bad considering the encounter.

Thanks.  Glad you folks enjoyed the pics.  I'm already ready to head back out there, if only I could get the time off to do so!

That looks like it was one mighty cool road trip! Truly awesome that the radiator on the jeep held up - that could have been a real hassle if it would have split.

Paul, I wasn't too worried about it, since I had the extra wheels on the back, but yeah it could have been a real hassle if it had let go out in the boonies.
 
Tomorrow night I'm picking the Jeep up from the body shop.  The OEM front bumper is being replaced with a Warn Rock Crawler unit, and I'm planning to mount my old Jeep-branded Warn 8274 winch on it.  Should be an effective wildlife deflector.
 
I'm kind of thinking I'd like to hit Southern Utah this Summer.  There's so much beauty in our world, and not nearly enough time to enjoy it.
