In the Feb, 2011 issue of Bass Player, the Rant Of The Month:
In the Jan, 2011 Tech Bench section they recommended keeping duct tape in your tour bag for taping down cables. Edwin Hurwitz wrote in saying that duct tape leaves residue, messes up floors, and ticks off venue personnel ( ... you will find yourself in an alley staring at a locked stage door ... ) and that gaff/gaffer's tape is much better.
Of course, BP's Bryan Beller admitted that Edwin is right (Must have been tired from all that driving.)

I have officially become a curmudgeon! Still and all, I've seen the look of surprise on my friend's faces as I grab the duct tape out of their milk crates and toss it in the trash and hand them a roll of gaff.
Gaff tape: $10/roll
a duct tape free stage: priceless!

Edwin:
Where are you getting gaffer's tape for $10/roll? That stuff is dearer than unicorn horns, pegasus feathers, or ink jet ink around here.
