Title: Volume pot
Post by: sir_bigend on March 08, 2008, 01:00:57 AM
the volume pot on my mark king bass is on its way out....i think, i pluged the bass in and the sound was distorting, the pot crackles slightly and as i turn the knob the volume seems uneven, i've tried the usual suspects battery,leads,pre-amp but this intermitant fault is still there, any ideas?

Hi Paul and welcome to the club.  You should really post this sort of request under Troubleshooting in the  section.  Mica (and others) are more likely to respond there.

Hi Paul, welcome to the board!  If you haven't played the bass in a while, the pots may need to be cleaned.  Alembic uses sealed self-cleaning pots; so the process involves turning the knob back and forth through its full travel about 30 times in succession.  Also, the pot should be firmly attached to the body; if it's wiggling some, it may be losing its contact to ground, which is the shielding paint inside the control cavity.
