I ran across this article (http://www.toronto.com/print/691867) this morning, and thought some of you might find it of interest. Someone who was there 58 years ago is asked his recollections of the event. It's a short article, not very in depth, but an interesting look back from one person's memory of a famous concert. An excerpt:
I remember Mingus looking at him like ?Let?s get on with the music. What?s this all about?? Mingus didn?t have much patience with that kind of stuff and Dizzy was always a clown. But I mean he was a pretty reliable guy but that night it was chaos. It was really chaos.?
The recording of this concert became Jazz at Massey Hall. The lineup; Charlie Parker on alto sax, Dizzy Gillespie on trumpet, Charles Mingus on bass, Bud Powell on piano and Max Roach on drums.

Interesting Article. Thanks Dave.

Art; I figured you might like it given the material you're doing in your jazz project. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFIG-2Grclg)'s a cut from the album. Blistering playing on a Gillespie standard.
It's an outstanding lineup. All giants of jazz.
