Title: Speaker Cabinet With Rack Space?
Post by: benson_murrensun on August 26, 2011, 10:32:55 AM
Does anybody know of a company that makes speaker cabinets with a couple of rack spaces built into them? I want to put together my own combo amp. I'm not looking for a custom-made cabinet with a custom price...

I know that Dr. Bass makes one.  I think SWR made them too but not sure if they still do.  Do a search for Airhead.  That's what is making me think SWR because they had a line that they called the Readhead.  But I think the combos without the amp sold with it were called Airhead.

I did see an Eden one once, but I don't know if it was an actual model.  It seemed kinda odd.  It was based on the 210 XLT but had a 4 space airhead built into it.

Oh a nice build project for me that would be, wouldn't be too complicated to make, good quality board, covering, corner strips and protectors, castors, baffle board and rack brackets.
Remember measure twice, cut once!

Measure with calipers, mark with a crayon, cut with an axe!

Do not go the Dr. Bass route before reviewing talkbass or contacting myself. I am one of many out $1000 from over two years ago. Paid in full, no cabs or refund.

Hearing Edwin's rig has made me a believer in fEARful (http://greenboy.us/fEARful) cabs; this guy (http://www.talkbass.com/wiki/index.php/Fookgub) built an airhead version.

Thanks to all who replied! I got into PROJECT MODE this past weekend and modified stuff I already had to make what I wanted. I started with my old Alamo 1 x 15 slant guitar cabinet (this project was for guitar, not bass), and cut a hole big enough for 2 rack spaces on the side of the cabinet. I really like the sound of the speaker that is in it; it's a Jensen with a black and gold label from way-back-when and sounds good for electric guitars. I mounted my F1-X and a Crown D60 amp in the hole. I changed the cabinet to an open back design, and added casters to the bottom. Then I added little rubber feet so I could stand the thing on its side and have the preamp/amp on the top for easier access. It still looks like an old P.O.S., but it sounds great! And I already had everything I needed right at home. All that's left is to make some kind of protection for the knobs that are sticking out from the side of the cab. Maybe some wooden quarter-round or metal angle?
It turns out that the F1-X takes guitar pedals really well; I had no idea, since I had been using it exclusivley for bass.
