This sounds like something to see. Too bad Buffalo's a million miles from everywhere...

I'm in Buffalo...my friend asked me to go...and I'm out of town that week....crap.
-
They are in Houston, TX September 15, tickets go on sale tomorrow! I think that will be a nice birthday present to myself!
-
I saw Zappa does Zappa when they played locally in my neck of the woods last time around. I think Frank wouldn't stop smiling if he could see Dweezil now.______ Awesome show!
-
Just last year we saw ZPZ open for Jeff Beck in Los Angeles. Great show. by both bands..
-
I got tix for the RTF IV/ZPZ show in Denver in August. I am psyched!!!
-
I have tickets for the Houston show September 15....can't wait!!
-
Just got home from the Nashville, TN concert and it was fabulous!!! Stupendous!!! Awesome!!! These guys sound great, look great, and are still having a blast into their 60's. Jean Luc Ponty really fit in well as did Frank G. If you can see these guys - DO IT!!!
Dweezle's band was really cool too - kind of a short set though - 1 hr. He's truly a gifted guitar player.
I'll post up some pictures tomorrow.
Steve

Thanks for the report! I'm going to see them next month...I can't wait! Did you take any pictures?
-
Here are some pics - the lighting was good at the end (i.e. brighter) and actually got a few good ones. I wish I had brought my good camera. The buckeye bass was really pretty :0)

Great pictures! Thanks for posting! Did Stanley play the buckeye much?
-
About 1/3 buckeye / brown / acoustic. I think the acoustic upright bass sounded better than ever. Very impressive - the acoustic songs were really smooth and clean sounding. Chick had a grand piano too. The Nashville show was at the relatively new symphony hall and this probably added to the sound quality. We were in the 9th row and the sound was probably a little better farther back.

Thanks Steve! I can't wait for the Houston show!
-
They're here either tonight or next Wednesday. Passed by the theatre in downtown Mpls on my way to work this morning. No spare cash and no one to go with.

Got tix for this Saturday in Denver! It's my (and my fiancee's) birthday weekend, so I got tix in a special section where they serve drinks to you at your seat. Woo hoo.

Ben, here are a couple of pix from last night's show at the Midland Theater in Kansas City.

We'll be seeing Stanley & RTF at the Moody Theater in Austin on Sept 13th. Any other folks from the River City going?
-
I'm seeing them in Houston September 15!
-
What was the roster for ZPZ? Did Dweezil intro the players?
Mike
-
Dweezil as Frank, Joe Travers drums, Pete Griffin Lakland bass, Jamie Kime guitar, Chris Norton keyboards, Ben Thomas vocals and trumpet, Scheila Gonzalez on keys, saxophones, clarinet and vocals and Billy Hulting on marimba, mallets and percussion.
-Jon
-
Joe Travers is from Erie, PA. Super nice guy- my friend Bill introduced me to him a few years back when Joe sat in for his band. I believe he relocated to Los Angeles awhile back- looks like it was a good move on his part, eh?
-
The show in Denver was outstanding! Both bands.
The encore for ZPZ was Don't Eat the Yellow Snow > St. Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast. Yes, folks, humor DOES belong in music. And I had heard of Frank Gambale, but was not familiar with his music. He fit right in to RTF; he's an animal on the guitar.
I know this is an over-used cliche, but it just doesn't get any better.

Great pic! I'll be seeing him on Wednesday!

Gibson has an ad/article (http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/frank-zappa-0902-2011/) online about FZ which includes a ~16 minute video of Dweezil showing & talking about his (completely insane) ZPZ rig, and his & Frank's guitars. Click the link, go to the 2nd picture & click the play arrow.

He's currently using two Axe-FX II units from Fractal Audio in his rack - see the pics above, the middle two uints with green/yellow screens with many cables duct taped to the front.
RTF was great, Zappa Plays Zappa was better, IMHO. See this show.

Here's a few pics from last nite in Austin TX.

Great shots! Tonight is Houston! I can't wait!!!
-
Great show in Houston last night! RTF was amazing as always, but I was really blown away by Dweezil & his band! Dweezil hung out & signed autographs the whole time they were changing equipment out, & Chick hung out after their show until the last autograph was signed. Stanley shook hands across the front of the stage, but didn't sign anything that I saw. I was bummed, I brought a picture for him to sign. I got Dweezil & Chick to sign my ticket stubs, both signed them upside down! LOL! If you ever get a chance to see Zappa Plays Zappa, I highly recommend it!!

Right on!
