Title: R.I.P. Sir Patrick Moore
Post by: jacko on December 10, 2012, 01:15:33 AM
One of the few 'celebrities' I truly respected passed yesterday. I know several of our members have more than a passing interest in astronomy and I for one have been greatly inspired by Patrick's 'The Sky at Night' programme that's been running monthly since 1957. There's a very good obituary here (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/sir-patrick-moore-astronomer-who-presented-the-sky-at-night-for-over-half-a-century-8397292.html). and lest we forget, he was a very good musician having performed regularly on the Xylophone (and was very good friends with Brian May).

I have one of his books 'The A to Z of Astronomy'
which I got signed by him when I attended one of his lectures many years ago, he had time for anyone who asked questions and explained them without too much tech talk
An eccentric but a true gentleman. RIP
