Have you ever had a chance to meet a legend? Show us your pics! Here's me with Victor Wooten.

Robbie Robertson slept on my couch when I was five; I didn't have a camera at the time so there is no document...it was after his brother's wedding and I probably accentuated his hangover with saturday morning cartoons...Tony
-
I played golf with Al Hendrix...no pics,
he did give me a copy of a pic of Jimi that is seen on one of the albums ( he had a stack of those pics to present to houseguests ).
Al was awesome !!
-
I played golf with Willie Nelson. I didn't take any pics, though.
Bill, tgo
-
So, were these golf outings planned or chance encounters?
-
Tony, I can just picture Robbie cracking one bloodshot eye & glaring at you watching Roadrunner & Scooby Doo! LOL!
-
Al would play at the Jefferson public course , The first time I met him was on the course, played a couple holes with him and from then he treated me like an old friend.
A couple planned occasions followed.
My dad had dinner with Buckminster Fuller ,
I have no details about that...must have been cool tho'

I wouldn't go as far as Famous friends, because I live in a country where there are not much really famous musicians, maybe some in a very local way that you might not have heard of in... ever. I shared some minutes with Verdine White and the rest of the EW&F band after a concert here, and had no camera around whatsoever, so no pics. I opened here for ASIA -original lineup- a couple years ago, and their management was very strict on a no pics or physical contact policy, so no pics with them either. However, in 1997 Bela Fleck came to Venezuela and Vic did a masterclass at a local theater, and I got to play with him (and have a nice chat and a small dinner/party afterwards). I had no camera with me, but a friend -who kinda worked for that theatre- filmed the event, and some years after lend me a copy, of which I took this photo.

By the way, that's an interesting bass I'm playing there, a Neck-Thru Hondo, late 70's I guess, with 2 DiMarzio P's, routing and room for some nice active electronics. Maybe Alembicizing it would be a good idea... :P
-
I played with Willie at his own course outside Austin. It was a benefit for NORML (National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws). Willie is a great guy and an accomplished golfer - i'm a hacker.

-
I never would have pegged Willie for a golfer! Thanks for sharing Bill!
-
This isn't me, it's Rod, the guitar player in my band backstage with Tommy Shaw of Styx. Rod was playing the lead solo to Styx's Blue Collar Man for Tommy on Tommy's favorite guitar that he wrote the solo on! Tommy told him he was playing it right! I can't imagine playing School Days for Stanley!

I met Ron Carter this past summer at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Unfortunately I don't have a pic to share, but it was definitely a highlight for me.
-
A friend of mine does sound for Victor Wooten, so we got to meet him after a show in Osaka, Japan:

Hey Harry, so you know Jack too! Great guy!
-
This is a picture of my band with Garth Hudson at Lupo's quite a while back. We were blessed when he sat in on accordion on Ripple

-
Art, Jack used to hang out with my old band Jiggle the Handle - he eventually became Larry the Light Guy and then became an excellent sound man!
-
Garth Hudson? Cool!!!!

Jimmy Ibbotson from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Tommy Chong, and yours truly playing my Ferlembic.
Bill, tgo
-
Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame??
-
Tommy Chong played in Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers who were on Motown Records and was/is a good player
-
Thanks Cory!
-
Not only is he good (he was a pro musician before he was a comedian), he briefly played in the Vancouvers with Jimi Hendrix!
Bill, tgo
-
I did not know that! Thanks for the history lesson!
-
Rusty, I'd love to meet Robbie again to see if he remembers that, I would've been four or five so 1970-71, the horror of his brother getting married in Mississauga ontario with no good hotels...I have a Tommy Chong story too; years ago('80's) I lived in Deep cove BC outside of Vancouver and one day Tommy Chong and a buddy kayaked up to the government dock just as we were about to smoke a fat one...needless to say we invited them to join in...I doubt he ever says no...Tony
-
Smoking weed with Tommy Chong would be like playing golf with Tiger Woods, he's a pro! LOL!
-
Actually, smoking weed with Tommy Chong was more like playing golf with Willie Nelson. (Let's say there was more than just golf happening).
Bill, tgo
-
Probably right...still very strange...think about a bunch of teenagers sitting on a government dock about to smoke a fatty(now in Deep Cove that was normal and no one batted an eye; in fact there was still a LOT of acid around there then, I can assure you, heh heh) but it was still pretty odd to have Tommy Chong show up even though he owned a place in west Vancouver at the time...that's a pretty long kayak paddle...so I would warn that he's stronger and fitter than he looks...
-
My daughter managed to catch Rocco backstage at a TOP show and arranged for me to meet him - one of my heroes, for sure!

-
Rocco & Jaco two of the baddest white cats on bass ever!
-
Rocco & Jaco ! Yes_____ They are in my list !
-
Richard, I'm ashamed to say that until you posted this picture, I had never really listened to Rocco, but after seeing your picture I checked him out & downloaded his solo CD Everybody On The Bus! He's a killer player! Thanks for sharing & enlightening me!
-
I would like to call these guys friends but really they were just kind enough to let me have a pic taken with them. I should really stop pursueing this as I look like a deer in the headlights in all of the shots . . . star struck!! :-D I don't remember the dates on all of these: Stan and me

Great pix Pauldo! Thanks for sharing!
-
Cool pics Pauldo, but Damn, they show the march of time, especially the Mike Watt ones(cool you've met him though)...it's funny how you don't FEEL that much different then you're presented with the photographic evidence...I still don't look my age or act it, but I AM aging...poop...
-
I almost forgot about another obscure famous friend...Flipper! my Dad at the time of the Robertson wedding was the manager of a shopping center(Chuck Robertson managed a shoe store, that's why Robbie was there) anyway, a large above ground pool was temporarily placed in the parking lot and Flipper the dolphin was there for some kind of promotional tour; I got to pet and feed Flipper...I've got a cool story about Mr. Dressup, but that's probably a Canadian only story...
-
Funny how Mike got older and I didn't! :-D
I grew up watching Flipper, it must have been a thrill meeting him(?) in 'person'.
My friend in Whitby sent me this picture of Mr. Dressup, Casey and Finnegin -

The Mister Rogers of the Great North
-
PAULDO!!!!!
AWESOME! that picture is SO PERFECT it's not funny; I am stunned....Anyway, my story...my Dad became friends with Ernie Coombs(Mr.Dressup)when my Dad managed his first shopping center in Mississauga(yeah, where the Robbie Robbertson thing happened)...anyway, for my fifth birthday I think, Mr Dressup gave me one of his records, but he made a personal cover with cartoon birthday wishes from him, Casey and Finnigan...on a brown outer wrapper but one of a kind...sadly the cover and album are long lost, as is Ernie...I can still picture the sleeve in my mind...I would love to see that cover again, just to have evidence of one's life from that far back; lots gets lost as we move along...Tony.
