I'd like to thank whomever it was that mentioned Porcupine Tree a few months back in one of those favorites threads. I found them on Pandora and have since created stations for Ozric Tentacles, Djam Karet and Happy The Man just to name a few. Really helps the day go by when working at home.

could have been me - do a Snarky Puppy, Transatlantic, and Alain Caron station - I love Pandora at work. Wish I had a smart phone to listen in the car.
-
Snarky puppy has been playing pretty much constantly on my pandora station since it was brought up a few weeks ago.
This song just kills me.

Richard Barbieri, the keyboard player with PT has an illustrious career as a member of Japan and has played on most of David Sylvian's solo work. You might enjoy that too.
-
Toby - thanks for that link - love it.
One good link deserves another - check this out..

David,
Wow- so much talent out there on YouTube, etc., that remains undiscovered by mainstream media. Thanks for the link!
-
Blown away by what I just heard and the many influences they've incorporated in to their music. The intro sax and percussion reminded me a lot of some early Weather Report. I heard some Joe Zawinul influence in their too. Then in the middle I was hearing a Chicago influence in the horn riffs. I'm definitely going to listen to more of their stuff.
-
Toby - it is truly the best of times and the worst of times.
-
Believe I could have been one of the guilty parties. Love PT,and all of Steven Wilsons spin offs.
-
Mike - Do yourself a favor and get Steven Wilson's latest blu-ray/DvD Get All You Deserve. Simply fantastic! He just finished recording his 3rd solo album with his new touring band (incredible musicians BTW) and it should release early 2013.

Well the Pandora love just gets better and better. Since I freelance, I occasionally work at a client's location. One that I frequent the most used to block Pandora. Not anymore.
Toby - The Snarky Puppy link was too cool for school, thanks.
Brent - thanks for recommendation. I'll have to look into that.

I'd go easy on the Pandora love--it's a one sided affair, unless you're into abusive relationships:

Toby; thanks for the Snarky Puppy video!
And David, the Kishi Bashi piece was gorgeous. Thank you!
-
And this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3MpGBwGdVk) is from the aforementioned Steven Wilson's new DVD. Pretty amazing stuff.
-
Thanks for the Snarky Puppy link Toby! I had never heard of them, but after watching the videos I bought Ground Up on iTunes last night! Great stuff!
-
Thanks for the Steven Wilson link Dave, great stuff!!
-
xlrogue6, thanks for the insight. The gist of this thread is to not promote Pandora, nor to suggest anyone subscribe to it. For me, Pandora has been a great avenue to experience music I otherwise would have missed.
-
Got 2 Snarky Puppy CD's for Christmas. The DVD that came with Ground Up is really cool. These guys are obviously having a ton of fun.

Snarky Puppy is one of my favorite bands now & I would have never heard of them if it weren't for Stephen's post on this thread! I downloaded Ground Up from iTunes, but may have to buy a store copy if it comes with a DVD!

I have been listening to Steven's new album, The Raven That Refused to Sing (and other stories). It is quite impressive and leads me to believe that Porcupine Tree will not be performing together for a while. This album is just awesome. Nick Beggs' bass playing is dirty good. His tones remind me of Chris Squire and early Geddy Lee. The folks in his new band are all sick players.
The Raven That Refused to Sing...just beautiful

The Watchmaker...great showpiece that just builds. The bass playing and vocals are superb.

Couldn't agree more. Steven Wilson doesn't get enough attention in the states. I also enjoy his collaboration Michael Aekerfeld .

On another note, amongst us prog fans, I just picked up Riverside' s newest Shrine Of Generation Slaves. Spectacular. Check out Escalator Shrineon YouTube ...12+ min of bliss!
-
Karl; I just listened to Escalator Shrine; that was great!
I also watched this live piece from them, Second Life Syndrome (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNuPf8siX_8).
-
Dave, check out The Curtain Falls, and The Same River by Riverside, my favorites!
-
Thats a great track Dave. I love the old school vibe in the middle section. They cover such a wide range of music. The lead singers (Mariuz Duda) solo project Lunatic Soul is also good listening, progressive, but different from Riverside.
-
Watched the live versions of The Curtain Falls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K1_7QT_POg) and The Same River (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XloyiZZ_gaw); very nice! Thanks; that made for an enjoyable evening of listening!
