I don't feel it (most of the time . . . . ) and truly think that this is the best time of my life. That manic, young man's hormone-induced hurry up has passed, what a relief. I've lived some, seen some more, learned patience (now THAT's amazing), earned a little grace, and like myself most of the time. EVERYTHING is NOT a big deal any more. Been through enough storms to appreciate sunshine a great deal more than ever.
In love for the last time with a keeper. Got the motorcycle / license. Can keep my playing at arm's length, and enjoy the retirement from that rat race. Sound better than ever in the living room, where I should have stayed. Re-lit the photo fire with pixels instead of Velvia (which I still miss). Becoming a better than average cook. I'm comfortable in my own skin, quite an interesting development, and wholly unexpected. Never was before . . .

Anyway, Terry, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and I hope you are comfortably easing into Old Geezer-dom like yours truly ! !

Post by: edwin on June 13, 2013, 12:10:38 AM: Ah, Velvia! It's like the tube amp of film. I worked at a pro lab here in Boulder for a number of years for some of the top nature photogs. It was like National Geographic every day, plus I got to play with pushing and pulling and generally having fun with my own film. Some weeks I almost had to pay them! But I digress. Happy, happy to all!

Post by: bigredbass on June 13, 2013, 04:03:14 AM: Well, you can certainly be a FAST Old Geezer: I watched McGuinness win the Senior TT, and if it's good enough for him, I would look mighty cool on a FireBlade (or a CB1000RR on this side of the pond). As far as Geezers, don't think Kenny Roberts has slowed down much . . . . and certainly not Ago !

Thanks for all the wishes, this 'family' to which I have become a member of is indeed the most sincerest, thoughtful and of course most informative as any other family I have known. It is endeed an honour and privelage to know you all through here.

Post by: bigredbass on June 14, 2013, 11:14:17 PM: The Fireblade was the vision of the great Honda development engineer and test rider, Tadeo Baba. Baba-san came to Honda as a welder, and came to the attention of Soichiro Honda himself for his skills as a test rider. He grew into engineering bikes, not the usual university-trained path, but one that Mr. Honda himself could certainly appreciate. When the Fireblade first appeared, it pioneered the '1000cc motor in a 600cc chassis', before the R1 and certainly better engineered vs. the contemporary GSXR's of the time. And it was developed by Baba outside the usual HRC channel. Baba was SO into it he would sneak back into the production line at night and sign the inside of the fairings !

Any way, the current Fireblades owe much of their layout to the MGP RC211's, 12's, and 13's: As it has always been, Honda races to perfect and test new ideas for production pieces.

Post by: terryc on June 16, 2013, 12:36:36 AM: Cheers Joey...yep maybe now the R1's & GXR's have caught up now, but back in the 90's when 1L bikes were lardy, unweildy machines, the 'Blade was a revelation.
Mine is 6 years old, only done 9.5K miles and is immaculate because it only goes out on dry sunny days!
Trouble is my mind thinks I am still 20 odd years old but my back and wrists are 56..stopping every so often is a must!
