So I should probably fess up that I've been under the weather for the last month or so. Seems my recent healthy livin' change in diet (and subsequent rapid weight loss) has had the side effect of an uninvited guest stone to my gallbladder. Tomorrow morning I'm having surgery to evict it.
They tell me I should allow a week give or take for recovery, so I should be back by the end of next week.
Please be extra nice to my wonderful mommy and auntie Mary while I'm out.
-
Will be thinking of you tomorrow morning, and sending you healing energy to make the procedure and the recovery as smooth as possible.
-
Mica ,
I send my sincere best wishes to you along with healing vibes and {[[[[[[Super Energy}]]]]]] for everything that you want as the perfect results .
-
Praying for a successful surgery & speedy recovery.
-
We're praying for you.
-
Get well soon, Mica. As we all get older we may need to adapt the soundtrack of our lives accordingly - for example, Dylan can become even more relevant:
Everybody Must Get Gall Stoned
hehehehe
Take care of yourself, enjoy the down time, are come back when you're ready, better than ever!

Warm wishes for a quick procedure and recovery. Always keeping you and yours in my prayers.

Ouch. Thinking of you and hoping for a quick recovery!
Tracy had her gall bladder removed earlier this year. Other than some (healthy and necessary) adjustments to her diet, it's been good.

Thoughts will be with you, Mica... All will be fine...
-
Even though you've already left for the procedure - I wish you all the best for an uncomplicated surgery and uneventful and speedy recovery!
The strength you've obtained from your meditation disciplines will help you through this.
You are in my thoughts.

I add my prayers and heartfelt wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
Mike
-
Ouch!! Well, best wishes for a speedy recovery, get back in good health soon Mica!! Thoughts and prayers with you from this side of the Earth!
-
I've been through it. The worst part is the outgassing of the CO2 from your joints for 24 hours post-procedure. The rest is easier, given the right meds. Best wishes.

Prayers and best wishes for an uncomplicated procedure and speedy recovery.

Congrats on the healthy living!
Please take it easy after the surgery. I had mine out between tours and a week after, I went on the road for a month. I thought I was keeping it under control, but it turns out I now have a diastasis, which basically means that the muscles opened up around the point of entry. Not horrible, but definitely uncomfortable and would require surgery to really fix it. So, I'm living with it. Be good to yourself! A little extra time off now could mean a lot more comfort later on.
All of our healing energy from here in Boulder!
-
Get well soon Mica! Good vibes headed your way.
-
Here's to a speedy recovery.
Keith

Ouch, Mica.
No fun at all!
Take it easy!
-
Mica,
Hope you're resting well and feeling fine.
I heard this month's special at the hospital is bookmatched-to-center sutures...
Don't rush your recovery!

Hello All- It's Mother from Mother-Ship giving you an update on Mica:
A little more difficult surgery. The stone was the size of an egg and the surgeon had to wrestle it out. She was in a lot of pain so extra pain meds were administered.
They kept her there overnight and today to monitor her breathing because of pain meds. We just got word okay to come get her.
The staff at Kaiser Hospital was both proffessional and caring. She'll be resting at home.
Thanks for all your well wishes. -Susan
-
Thank you Susan!
-
THE SIZE OF AN EGG???
Good Lord.Yowza.Mine just had so many little ones they gave up trying to count them all. She's going to feel a whole lot better in a few days.I know I did.
-

Much love for all of you from me_____

Those hurt, but the surgery will make a world of difference. You'll be fine in a couple of weeks, and glad you had the thing taken out. And you'll be able to eat something other than soda crackers again!
Godspeed!
Rick
-
Sorry to hear about the need for the surgery. The size of an egg? Ouch is right. As others has suggested take it easy as you recover but congrats on making a commitment to more heathy living. It means you'll be around a long time.
-
Thanks for the update Susan. It's good to hear Mica is well on her way to a full recovery. let her know her extended family in Britain is thinking of her.

I kept having these stomach pains that nothing would fix. Went to the doctor who phoned the hospital and they had a surgeon waiting on me. Ran the ultrasound scanner over that part of my abdomen and he says 'Yep, there's your problem !' Three stones, I'm looking at the screen with him. Blocked everything right up, off I went to surgery, and came back one gall-bladder short.
Damn healthy living diet will get you every time ! I now have all these little hole scars from the 'scope surgery. I looked silly in a Speedo anyway . . .
All the Best, kiddo, we're thinking about you. I always say the best thing about Alembic is you, your Mom, and Mary, so Get Well Soon ! ! !
Good to see ya in print, Susan !

It's great to know surgery went ok! Thanks a lot Susan for the update, and I'll keep having Mica (and the entire Alembic family) on my prayers and good wishing list! Seems like the worst is already over. Now it's a matter of patience and time. Keep it easy and all this will be over and done very soon!

All the best Mica during your recovery, you are in my prayers. I changed my diet some years ago and I am far healthier now than the past twenty years, although it took time to adjust. Hang in there!!
-
Good to hear the surgery went well! Take it easy and get plenty of rest! Everything else can wait in times like this.
-
Speedy recovery Mica!
I don't know if this is your first time with general anesthetic, but isn't it weird? you're on a table talking to doctors and next thing you're in a bed with things having been DONE to you...that involve stitches...Tony

Not to hijack the thread (thinking about your recovery, Mica! I hope it's tolerable), but before I got diagnosed with gallstones (it was 4 long years of excruciating pain), I was misdiagnosed in numerous ways. One of the more dramatic misdiagnoses involved going to the emergency room while I was on the road with severe pain and the geniuses at the emergency room in San Diego opined that it was my heart. So, they decided I needed an angiogram. Procedures under anesthesia are intense, but having them happen while you are still awake is pretty crazy, too. Luckily, the drugs they do give you make you not care that they are snaking a catheter up your femoral artery into your heart and you can feel it go through the valves while you watch it on the monitor. Actually, it was fascinating and the drugs were great. Of course, I passed with flying colors but had to deal with the rest of the tour with a hole in my leg and then deal with the gallstone surgery a month later when I finally switched to a doctor who figured out what was going on right away.

All my best thoughts and healing energy to you Mica,
Quite a support team in your corner too.
Thanks Susan for the update .

Best wishes for a quick recovery Mica!
I've never had a gall stone, but have had many kidney stones (12 or 15) over the last 20 years. After not having one for probably 7 years, I have had 4 in the last year, including two in the last month... The biggest one I've had was 5mm, like the size of a sesame seed, which was more than plenty large. I don't even want to think about anything larger than that!
Rest, relax a bit, and heal quickly! The world will keep turning, but we'll be glad when you're back.

Add my thoughts to the best wishes pool, Mica! Speedy recovery and all that, too. Thoughts are with you.
-
Thanks! I've been trying hard to rest and rest and rest. That is harder to do than it sound. Of course, I did manage to convince my mom I could come in for a couple of hours today, so I'm chilling on the sofa a bit. I'm not driving since I still am on the pain meds, and I can't pick up any Alembics since I'm not allowed to lift more than 10 pounds for 4-6 weeks.
Not sure if I'll be in again tomorrow, but I wanted to check in on things and take a few pictures (of course with an assistant flipping for me).
I appreciate all the kindness sent my way, it means so much!
-
good to hear your finding a nice balance,
smiles from the NW
-
You should be home catching up on old movies.
It is good to hear from you. Hope you are able to get off the pain meds soon.
-
What!? I can be your assistant?!
Take care!
-
Mica:
Good to gear things are progressing well. Be sure to take your time and not rush things. Relaxing to some good old movies sounds like an excellent idea!

Glad you're doing well!

Mica, I have waited to chime in until now, although I have been thinking about your recovery and have kept you in my daily prayers. I have experienced this issue, and for me it did progress to a gall bladder removal. The good news is that there is a great support network amongst the club members, and you can contact me directly any time for support, questions, etc. Most important, you now need to be a little more selfish for your own benefit, and get help with whatever needs to get done as needed! I hope your recovery continues, and it becomes easier for you to get back to normal (what is normal anyway?).
-
Mica,
Good to hear your starting to feel better. Those pain meds can make it easy to overdo things so please don't push it too hard. Instead draw some pictures with Erik and enjoy your time off.
Keith
-
I'm trying hard not to over do it. I made it to work at 1:00 today, and I won't be staying (too) late).
Good news, I'm on half the pain medication and if the itchiness of healing is any indication of the rate of recovery, then I'm doing great!
-
DON'T overdo. DON'T stress yourself. It is forbidden. We' ll be watching you.
Those are great news! May it be a speedy, easy, peaceful and wonderful recovery!!!
-
I Swear I put a smilie after the We'lll be watching yuo phrase on my previous message. Dunno why it didn't show. So... Smilie-smilie-smilie-smilie. There you go. Smilie again.
-
Take it slow, Mica! I'm really glad you're feeling better but I would hate for you to overdo it like I did. It's not much fun having a hole in the abdominal muscles.
Lot's of smilies from Boulder!
-
Mica .
Great news ! I am happy that you are on the road to recovery. The take it slow protection vibes are being sent from my location !
The best of the best and smiles for you ___

I am really trying hard on the taking it easy Rx. I swear I only forgot once about picking up heavy things and I moved a guitar (in a case) case about 10 feet before Mary yelled at me (most lovingly) to put it down.
-
LOL...and Alembics aren't known for being super-light .
You'll have plenty of time to move instruments around in the future...baby steps, eh?
I'm sure by the next time you reach a palindrombic post number (110 from now) you'll be moving basses,(in cases).
We just need to keep distracting you with quasi-sensical posts and mostly pertinent questions.
: ))

Glad you're doing well. Don't get hooked on the pain meds.
-
Hi Mica,
Glad to hear your recovery is coming along nicely! I understand how hard it is to not do things right away--it's challenging to rest up, let alone actually sit and do nothing--when you're not used to living life like that!
All the best!
Eric

No meds today
I did manage to get out last Friday (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6CMhHK-4EM). If you don't blink, you might even see Mary and me all blurry for a second. It was fun - but I had to sleep the whole weekend after that excursion.
Only working half days so far this week. That's working good to get plenty of rest.
-
So the real question is: how close did you and Mary get to the alligator? lol
Bill, tgo
-
Mica, rapid weight loss !!!!!!!, can I get one of those gallstones
Glad to see your doing better
