What is the difference in construction besides the neck laminates in a standard vs. a deluxe MK. bass? Is the cost difference just the top and back wood or is there a difference in body plys? thanks for info, Soren

More work involved = more money paid.
The deluxe has both front & back matching woods whereas the standard only has the top wood with accent laminate and body wood.
With Alembic you can start with a 'basic' model and if your wallet/bank account/inheritance/mortgage(whichever is easier!!) has the funds you can add as many custom options as you want.
Multiple body laminates, multiple neck laminates, ultra exotic woods, LED's, gold hardware, elaborate inlays, custom electronics.
All depends on your imagination and how much money you have.

I have a MK deluxe. I never looked at a standard version and was wondering what the difference was in construction of the basic package.

The differences may change in subtle ways over time. Currently, the deluxe gets you cocobolo top and back, purpleheart neck stringers and a silver logo instead of brass. I think that's in the vicinity of $3500 at list price.
Note that not everyone who has ordered a deluxe over the years has wanted the cocobolo, so there are some out there with other woods.

There is a very good special this month which I plan to take advantage of for my 10str Excel. Might be just the push to go over the edge for some of the folk here.
