How do you know if you are a Bass-aholic?
Watch out for the dreaded signs!
You are only a bass-aholic if you own 12 or more basses. Then you have to be in denial (and have to listen to things like, but you can only play one at a time, why do you own so many? from another person in your household). ? OR ? if the basses you acquire go from 4 strings to 5 and then 6 or more and have fancy woods and inlays and many knobs, - OR - if you are in danger of being crushed under falling bass guitar cases that are stacked to the roof from your hoarding then you may have a problem, - OR ? if you feel the need to take any kind of a BASS SOLO, at any time, then you definitely have a big problem.
Do not despair, there is help?.
Then, you can begin the 12 step bass-oholic program. That consists of selling your basses one at a time to helpful members of this forum at ridiculously low prices; YES, WE ARE HERE TO HELP!
Do not delay and post some now in the 'for sale' section of this forum. Even going another day could be too late for you, and you might be tempted to acquire yet another one.
I am a bass player, but I can change, if I have to (repeat as needed).
Or take up guitar, and then you can own as many guitars as you want to, and take 4 - 5 to gigs in case you break a string on one!

Hmmmmm if I draw a parallel with wine. If someone has a wine cellar with lots of fine & expensive wines they are seen as a connoisseur and not an alcoholic. Therefore if you have a number of expensive basses, for example alembics, you could not be a bass-aholic but a connoisseur of fine basses.
And according to the Oxford English Dictionary: connoisseur
noun
1.
an expert judge in matters of taste.

ps: do you have something to confess about your bass ownership status? :-)

Oh no, this is not about me. Trying to blame others for a person's bass addiction is a common denial trait that is known in psychology circles as 'projection'.
Now me, I can be happy with just a P bass to dink around on. Maybe even a MIM P bass. I know I can and I can stop anytime I want to.

I'd be willing to do my part to help the poor bass-a-holic by offering to help lighten his burden of one-too-many-basses. For ridiculously low prices, of course.......... )))

What's the difference between a connoisseur & a wino?
$30 a bottle.
You only have a bass problem if you collect Fenders.

Just tell people that they're art supplies...no one questions a painter's number of brushes; they are all paintbrushes and do they're own thing...I am a goldsmith and own over 150 metal files; a luthier friend freaked out saying he'd never seen so many files in one place...I pointed out that there were many very specialized shapes that got used once a year, but damn you were so happy you had that file when you needed it...anyway, that's my excuse for so many instruments and I be sticking by it...Tony

Playing and thinking about playing and practicing and rehearsing and burning up the web kept me up nights for most of my adult life.
It doesn't any more.

How many basses is too many?
Just one more...
I don't have a bass acquisition problem.
I acquire them, play them and then acquire some more - NO PROBLEM!
-
I had 15 at one time...but they are all gone except the MK and my Alembic powered Squier P bass so I guess I am cured!!
At the meeting;-
My name is Terry and I am a bassaholic LOL

If you consider that Allen Woody(R.I.P.) had a bass collection numbering in the hundreds, and he didn't seem to have a problem, I would think that could be used to legitimize continued collecting on our parts, don't you? I mean, if he could do it, can't we?(if we build an addition on the house?)

The OX had just a few as well !!!!!

A few _____http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/8194.html?1259966777 (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8162)

May Allen Woody?s example lead us all through the path of Bass-aholic-ism! May the WIckersham?s lead us all through the path of Alembic-holic-ism!
-
And that is just a small sample, Wolf; John had one of the world's greatest collections, and an entire warehouse to hold them!

Peter , I think I would have been a willing ticket buyer to view the OX's collection. Was it all sold at auction ?

I don't know; Oliver, are you still here?
