Great playing !

Where is Number One these days?
-
I believe the powers that be at Alembic are aware of its location - but it is a mystery to the rest of us pursuant to the request of the current owner.

Excellent video, Kent. That's a real blast from the past! Thanks for posting.

I believe Bill's correct - and I seem to further recollect reading that said owner is, in fact, present among us on the Club.

I answered an ad in the early 1990's when it I was told that it was for sale locally in the Bay Area, California. I was told that it needed a bit of work both cosmetically and functionally at the time . Currently it appears to have had the original electronics replaced with Series I . The pick ups look original. I remember seeing Jack playing it just a few feet in front of me back in The Day when he still had it. I should have made the purchase when I had the chance . I have a huge framed photo hanging in my studio of Jack playing it on the back wall.
This has been on the web for years _____

What Sonicus is describing is what I have always thought of as #1. I bought a Rick Turner bass back in the early '90's from someone associated with Vic Zinn (who had recently passed away). He told me that he had a line on Alembic serial number 1, if I was interested. He indicated that, at that time, the bass was near Indianapolis....
-
serialnumber(1) was built in 1972
-
Yes, As the serial number indicates ; 72-001
-
The body shape of 72-01 was recreated by hand for the "Crown of Creation" custom bass project from drawings made by Susan using old photos and her memory as reference:

To my eye, she nailed it and then she, Mica and I refined the point to be a bit more elongated. The original point was shorter due to it being incorporated into the body carving:

Back atcha', buddy.
Working with Alembic to recreate the vibe of this iconic instrument was a 40 year + dream come true for me.
I still have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not sleeping...
