That, plus 'Standing in the Shadows', the Funk Brothers bio about the Motown/Detroit studio crew.
The part where it talks about Jamerson having to buy a ticket (!) to 'Motown 50', and sitting in the balcony with all the civilians still makes my blood run cold.
Blaine was a piece of work ! I read he did the 'Hawaii 5-0' chart first take. I paraphrase, but here's Blaine, always straight, no chaser: Once when asked about how if felt to have played on all the classic Beach Boys tracks, he reportedly said something unprintable, along the lines that he got paid 400 bucks to cut it, and Dennis Wilson got 15 grand a night to TRY and play it, 'that's how I feel about it', followed by more unprintable retorts.
The crazy thing, all these guys were serious jazzers, cutting these 'silly little pop records' to pay the bills so they could play REAL music at night. As a kid there was so much in those West Coast records that stuck with me, no wonder.

The Wrecking Crew by Kent Hartman is a very entertaining read about the era and the musicians.
