Hey Phil, did you know there's some guy pretending to be you up at some restaurant/bar/music hall in San Rafael named after a turtle or something?

I know these current production 'Newark St. Basses' re-issues are supposed to re-create the originals, but for me they pose a few problems:

a)  Obviously they lost the blueprints for these with TWO pickups . . . .

b)  I guess it's a nice stylistic touch to have TWO thumbrests ( . . . which confirms what I always thought, that a lot of guys who played these in the old days sure sounded like they had all, or obviously, TWO thumbs) and the bridge saddles made out of the same hardwood, but it's 2015 already . . . WOOD bridge saddles?  On that funky little bridge?  Really?

These aren't really my cup of tea (would have never known, right?), but honestly, at least sell parallel versions of these things built like a real bass, wouldja?  A real bridge, two pickups, real keys.   Or better yet, make a Squier version, it would turn out right.

SO, for the Guild Monday Morning Meeting, here's the talking points:

a) Shoot your web designer.

b) Get Phil's picture in there, we've run Barry Gibb's pic in TWO places.

c) The 'Product Pagge' tab needs work, troubleshoot that 'SPELLLEEE CHICKER' program.

d) Find the 'two-pickup' blueprints so we can shut that nut up on the ALEMBIC chat room.  Call Babicz and HipShot.

e) See if one of the New England state highway departments is interested in some wood bridges, cheap.  We'll pay the shipping.

There.  I feel better.

That was at the High Sierra Music Fest in 2007 and it was 115 degrees out. The weird stripy thing around my neck was actually an old shirt I ripped up and stuck in an ice water bucket for a while to try to stay cool. Much fun, but kind of brutal.

Chiming in late, I know.... But..... Simply hysterical on all fronts!!!!....

If it's any consolation to Joey, I know the U.S. shop up in New Hartford is making a two pup version, but alas, Westerly style  humbuckers~ no bisonics....

As a local highway dept employee, they can keep the wood bridges, eh saddles, maybe an equestrian group up there can make better use of them....

Well, I sent them a note thanking them for posting my picture and that I'd be happy to endorse their lovely bass. We'll see what happens.

Thought the New Hartford Guild facility turned off the lights about a year ago. Was the decision reversed? Used to live no more than a few miles of the place when I resided in CT

Guild's US operations are now in Oxnard, CA, under the direction of former Gibson Acoustic honcho Ren Ferguson.

I've often thought that if you took all the 'former Gibson ______________' there are, we could have a yearly reunion at Titan Stadium here in Nashville, IF it would hold all of us.  I wonder how long Ren was in de-programming?

Well, it now appears that Edwin has been removed, but there is no Phil Lesh to replace him.  Come on Guild, get your act together!

Why Joey, do you mean to imply that working for Henry isn't all cherries???  I'm shocked! (in my best Claude Raines voice)

I'm sorry, but I have to play this hand:

Why no, CC, working for The Henry isn't all cherries . . . . IT'S the PITS (in my best Gilbert Gotfried voice)

Huh... small world Joey.

During my stint in Nashville (crash diet was more like it) through various other music aquaintances, I met a couple guys that worked for various branches of HJ's... Richie Owens, and Todd Wright. Richie was head of production or some kind of muckety-muck at Dobro, which Gibson had recently acquired, and IIRC Todd was one of the Bozeman guys... this was my inside to getting hired at Gibson. I'd have done it too, but for the insanely long hiring process, which was like six weeks or something. About the same time our band got a management deal and a series of short tours that would've knocked me out of the job anyway. Eventually, Richie hooked me up with another guy that ran a shop where we built custom road cases for everything imaginable, from TV cameras for TNN Motorsports to giant mixing boards, even a B3 organ for Shania Twain. It was steady work I enjoyed, and flexible enough that I could work when off the road, a lifesaver really. Worked for him the rest of my time there, and we're still good friends today. Never saw or heard from Richie Owens or Gibson USA again, but given all that went down over on Elm Hill Pike in years to come... whew! Talk about being happy about the road not taken.

Sorry for the derail... carry on! =)
