Our current lead singer (we're in the midst of a friendly transition) plays one.  It's not terrible, but I was a bluegrass picker who lived for the old bass cannons, and new Larivees once upon a time. It's not quite on of those, but easier on the wallet.

I've borrowed a friend's Yamaha Silent Bass for gigs a few times. It sounds amazing, and is probably the most comfortable upright I've ever played.  
 
I just watched Slowhand At 70: Live at the Royal Albert Hall (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slowhand_at_70_%E2%80%93_Live_at_the_Royal_Albert_Hall) on the local PBS station and Nathan East plays one on most of the ballads.  
 
Here he is playing a particular excruciating note:
