Just saw the breaking news.

Initial reports say he canceled two shows last week because of a hospitalization related to the flu.

It is tough not to speculate on what happened.  He was Modern Funk and Soul personified. Another tragic death claims a great one.

This is getting ridiculous! Another one gone!
A well known UK comedienne Victoria Wood died this week as well.
Moral; Don't be famous in 2016!
RIP Mr Red Beret

As a fellow Minnesotan, all I can say is that its so sad to see someone who still had so much wonderful music left pass away so young.

I can't say that I responded to all of his music, but Prince was one hell of a guitarist whose virtuosity on the instrument was under appreciated by many.

I remember going to see the movie Purple Rain when it first came out.  I went because I thought it was important; I thought that the music he was making, or more accurately, the way he was making it, was significant.  He changed our culture for the better; and that, I think, is a greater gift than the actual music.

Back in 81' a friend gave me a copy of Dirty Mind saying that he couldn't stand this disco garbage and I gave it a listen to.
And it took a couple of spins but I got it.This wasn't disco. This is something else. This was funk, soul,r&b,Party music. Not to mention subject matter that nobody else was recording that's for sure.
Even though I was into my punk period I really dug what I was hearing.Still do.

Learning of his passing yesterday hit me real hard.

Although I never did truly understood everything he did, I was not really getting all there was to it, there is a lot of Prince music I enjoyed and appreciated, and I think after that I am able to recognize a genius, which he truly was. Some of his tunes and works are really superb, as a composer, as a creator, as a player and performer. Another sad loss adds up to this already shocking 2016 in matters of geniuses and creators departures from our plane... How I really wish it would stop at least for a while...

I was never really into his music, but I remember him performing at the Super Bowl a couple years ago in the rain and how he didn't even blink at the bad weather and I thought, Man, what a pro this guy is!
