There should not be any U.S. taxes or customs duties since the bass is an American made product returning to the U.S..

I do not know if there would be an European sales/VAT taxes or not.

I sold a bass a couple of months ago with the text: Returned US Goods. No taxes.

I've been away so I missed this question.  I bought an Alembic bass from the UK a couple of months ago and had the same question.  My seller and I paid no taxes and the bass arrived with no question.  I don't think we got away with one but have no idea why Manfred had an issue.

I don't think Manfred had any problems. I believe he just put the text Returned US Goods on the outside of the package to ensure duties did not get charged when shipping it to the US.

That's correct Keith, I didn't have any problems at all, I wrote Returned US Goods on both the package as on the packing document. No tricks, completely legal.

Thanks for the advice.  I am looking at an incredible Series 1 in Europe and hope to purchase when I get the build record and related data.

I would really like to find an awesome MK Deluxe or Series 1 with a Balance K body and an Omega or Heart Omega cut.

I would too, but I'm thinking it may be a while before used Balance K's start showing up!

Bob,

I know somebody who once said, if you know somebody who wants my bass, let me know. Here's a link to his introduction.

I'm not sure if I still have his correct email address, but if you have any interest, I can do a search to him but it will take me some time.
Maybe he doesn't want to sell anymore but you'll never know.

Oh well, if you are interested, you can contact him yourself, I think he's still using that email address, if not, I will try to find him.

I love these older S-I point basses.
BTW, there is still a used Series I five string at Edwin van Huiks store here in the netherlands. It under http://www.connectionbult.com/ (http://www.connectionbult.com/) new used Alembic Series I 5 string vermillion and the price has been lowered.

Thanks for the lead, Manfred.  Another awesome bass.  It showed as listed for 3100 Euros, which is, unfortunately a little above my range for the moment.
