I'm cursed with short arms and a bad back, so I'm only looking for a short-scale bass with Series electronics; not picky as to wood types, age or electronics upgrades. My e-mail's in my profile, or just post below and I'll reply.
Thanks,
KFS

Still looking...
My preference would be for a well-maintained '76, but I'd be more than willing to consider any and all, and tips would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Good luck. I have been looking too. It is a hard to find item. There are some out there, but I will not put up with moved strap buttons or pickup selectors. I want bone stock. If there are any I pass on, you want first dibbs?
I have been seriously thinking about contacting the elves to construct me one of those re issue jobs. I would love to have something stripey as far as wood goes, amber tint, etc...
Maybe some day.

Thanks, Michael, that would be great...I'm not looking for a mint instrument, just something that hasn't been abused, neglected or gutted and fitted with Batrolinis or something similarly asinine. My main motivation for wanting another Alembic is to keep my Series 2 in mint condition, so whatever I buy is bound to pick up some mojo along the way anyway.

That is a great idea. I too have a Series 2 with graphite neck. When I bought it the thing was mint. Now, it is quite used. It is just such a good bass, I had trouble not using it! Try to keep it as nice as you can.

That's also why I bought my 80' Series 2. To keep my soon to arrive series custom new! That and I'll wager it's probably the only graphite series 2 lefty in existence!! Mike

It's a hell of a decision to make, isn't it -- to play the bass that has spoiled you for pretty much every other bass you come across, or to treat it with the reverance it deserves and save it for the studio or special gigs.
We should all have such problems, eh?
Mine has a few marks that don't go through the finish, and a pinhole in the side of the neck that was probably there since it was new, and here I am dragging it to Schenectady, NY for practice every week!

When I got my first Alembic SC, I wanted to get it onto the stage asap. So far its not been damaged or dinged at all. But I think that i have a lovely bass and I want to use it when I do gigs. Yes I am scared about it getting damaged or even stolen at a gig so I can't relax when its somewhere that I'm not.
That said I bought an orion guitar last year to take on the road with me as I have taken my favourite Strat Ultra to gigs and its getting a bit bruised and i'm kind of sentimental about it.
But i'm looking forward to taking the orion to the big stage for a great sound live.
I think if you have a great instrument it deserves to be heard.
