Title: 145 B string

I'm wanting to put a 145 B string on my Alembic Rogue 5 string. Will a 145 fit the bridge saddle?

I would imagine a .145 B would have a tappered core, i'd be more concerned if it would fit the nut.

Galli Saturn strings by any chance? These are the only strings I've heard of that have such heavy gauges.

No,they are D'Addario strings. EXP 160 SL + one single. Maybe I should get the tapered 145. I need input from some here at Alembic. Mica? The store will put their order in tomorrow. Help.

I can't recall at the moment if you purchased your bass new or used; but here's my guess.  If the bass was a custom order, the bridge saddles and nut may have been cut for the owner's favorite strings.  Similarly, a previous owner may have modified the saddles and/or nut for their strings.  If the bass was new with standard Alembic strings, then I'm guessing the saddles and nut were cut for those strings.  If the 145 is too big for the saddle, you can purchase a needle file at a hobby shop and resize the groove.  It's not too terribly difficult, and the B string should be much easier than the tiny C string, which I cut with a needle file from a new uncut saddle.  A suspended magnifying glass is very handy for this.

It all depends on the existing groove in the saddle (and nut) as has already been noted.  
 
You can put the string on without reslotting to see if it's something you even remotely like. If you're happy with the string, then you can modify your existing saddle and nut to accommodate the larger size unless you have an exposed core. Then you will need to start with a new Bstring saddle, but you can still enlarge the groove in the existing nut.  
 
The goal when you're reslotting is to have the bottoms of the strings the same distance from the tops of the frets.

It came with the original strings. The B is a 128. I can do the enlargement, as I have small round files. But to get the order off, I said just put in the PSB 135 single in the order instead of the 145. I'm pretty sure it will take that one. Thanks for your reply. I won't alter it unless I have too.
