Post by: spose on December 11, 2008, 08:25:22 PM
I like to surf the web collecting photos of old Series Alembics...imagine that?

I came across this beauty...maybe it belongs to a member here?

Wow, what a tail piece assembly! Fine tuners, a large brass plate, series1 w/master vol. and extended lower horn?. Vey interesting.

Wonder how old that bass is, looks very funky and obviously Alembic were way ahead of Floyd Rose.
I bet those old basses sound as great as they look.

terryc, the site I got it from said 1977 Custom Series

the extended lower horn is pretty cool, it's growing on me.
I believe he said the fine tuners are cello tuners

and yes my old 76 294 sounds fantastic as do all alembics, but the it feels like a 30+ year old instrument, like a nice broken in pair of leather boots. VERY COMFY!
I can't imagine life without it!

I'm pretty sure that bass belongs to Dan Schwartz, who is referenced in this thread (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=1592) - his Guild bass that he received from Phil Lesh is discussed further down in the linked blog posting).
