For the past couple of days i've been looking for a nice, good bass head for around $500. I've been looking at the Ampeg SVT-3PRO and a Marshall MB450H. If anyone has any experiences with the Marshall taht'd be GREAT because i've already played the Ampeg quite a bit but not sure how crazy i am on the graphic EQ. any other suggestions would be very helpful also.

You can probably get a smaller, used Eden head for around that. They can't be beat for the tone I'm after, with Alembic or other basses, though some who like a more retro tone say they're too hi-fi.

Check out Gallien Krueger 1001RB amps. Plenty of power AND they're still made in the U.S.A.! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAW...
Ampeg amps have a real good sound but I would'nt buy one used, they just get unpredictable with their performance after a couple of years use.

yup, that's the other kind of amp I use. GKs rule. some of the best solid-state preamps I've ever heard. and they have a wonderful growl for not having a tube. also have seemingly infinite headroom and are built like tanks. they'll damage you long before you manage to damage them!

The GK Backline600 Packs 300Watts RMS at $300. (http://club.alembic.com/Images/395/77271.jpg)

And it Also Blew (or was it me) the shit outta these JBL's recently!!!

Keavin - after what I saw in Chicago , I'm guessin' it was you that blew those speakers!
I agree with the GK comments, I've been driving the 800RB for probably 2 decades and no problems.

I have a few GK products _____800 RB , 400RB ,200MB and 2/ 150e units _ and a 2001RBP NO complaints and I like the tone. However I prefer the tone from my ALEMBIC F1-X or F-2B with my Yamaha P2200 or Crest VS900 power amps. It all depends on the room and the gig or playing scenario on what I will use . Yes, I have GAS !!!!!

ok, i went to the local guitar center today and tried out the GK 600 Backline and the GK 1001RB with a Fender American St. Precision bass so i could tell the differences when turning knobs on the amp and such. to my surprise, they both sounded great. as of now, i've narrowed it down to the 1001RB(i didn't have a need for the seoncd channel on the Backline) and an Acoustic B600H(whihc i also played today). looks like i just need to go when they aren't busy so i will be able to really sit down and try each head out to its full potential, thanks for the inputs guys, any other suggestions are still open
