I have just acquired a 6 string Persuader that has a neck width that is proving to be quite challenging on the wrist. I would like to possibly do a trade on a 5 string: Elan, Europa or maybe even an Essence. Photos can be seen on the following photo bucket: http://s1123.photobucket.com/albums/l550/billostech/ (http://s1123.photobucket.com/albums/l550/billostech/)
SN: 90 P6040
top: Flame Maple
body: Mahogany
through body neck: Maple and Purpleheart 34 long scale
fingerboard: Ebony with pearloid inlays, custom width 2.5x3.5
pickups: AXY56
controls: 2 volume 1 filter mono output
birthday: July 20, 1990
originally made for: Guitar Center, San Diego. Must have been a custom order, but the origial owner did not register the bass.
There was a registered owner in 2002 in southern California. He replaced the pickup screws.

Great looking bass. Looking for a fretted bass for now. Thanks for offering.

Hey I had that persuader too! the lady in florida said the neck is quite sizable (in an austrailian accent) and the salesman told me the last guy said the neck was too much for him so he returned it. I said nah I've got 3 six string basses and a seven string bass and a 4 and a 5 alembics (having the six makes a set in my weird mind) I said I'm sure the neck won't be a problem.... fast forward... so I pulled what I thought was two basses in one bag out and nope... it was in fact the heaviest bass with the largest neck I've ever played a real moby dick story. who ever ordered this first must have had the biggest Tony Robins banana hands ever. I played it for about a half hour over a week and said I can't do it, took it back to guitar center. good luck to who ever can hold aloft excaliber because it sure wasn't the guy before me or myself. I will say it plays great, looks great, and sounds great, I gracefully exit here.

Thanks for the input Lloyd. Custome size neck is an understatement. Here is a side by side comparison to my MK5:

So the search is on for a great bassist with large hands ..LOL

that MK is a beautiful bass too. after my affair with the persuader I'm holding out for a Europa 6. does it seem like Alembics don't have a lot of bass on the B string? am I alone oon this? I just saw James Taylor and his bass player played a S2 5 string and it sounded huge. but my Elan though I love that bass seems thin sounding. so I play it with a high C string insted. can you help a brotha out?
-
That bass player is Jimmy Johnson- he posts here regularly. Check his thread in the showcase section.
My 5 string experience with Alembic was a signature equipped Rogue. The B was massive- not thin at all. Have you tried different string brands? Could it be an EQ issue?
-
Same here Toby. The B on my MK 5 is on point; deep, rich and felt throughout the crowd.

Wookie,
An SF-2 would help to fatten up your tone,
after all Jimmy is playing a Series 2 .
What kind of amplification do you have?

Ahem... Gentlemen
Although your input is always appreciated, I don't need to remind you that I am trying to get rid of my 6 string bass. Most of you are aware of the rules regarding post hijacking. That being said, let's start another post for Wookie. He needs our help outside of this post. Thanks in advance.
-
My apologies, your absolutely right, I'll watch for wookie's thread on tone fattening.
...and of course add to this thread if I see a good deal on a fretted fiver.

Thank you Elwood.
The good news is I am in no big hurry to part with the Persuader. I have to alter my technique a bit to make it work, but it's perfect for a couple new tunes I am working on. If a 5 string comes my way, I will be most appreciative. Until then the Persuader?s neck profile is, IMHO, a nice problem to have. After all, it is a great sounding Alembic!!!
Thanks to all for visiting this post.
