Just hoping to find something nice for a decent price. I've been playing Bass for about 25 years and have always wanted an Alembic. This seems like a really great group of people, and Thanks for letting me join.

There is a really nice '76 Series I medium scale for sale. It's at Alembic now getting tweaked. I was up there and checked it out. It's a beautiful birds eye maple 32 scale. If I had the extra cash, I'd buy it.

LOL!!!! Edwin, you kill me. Not really, but I have to admit, 405 is a real dream. Short scale, light weight, and those adjustable filters on the fly is a real boon. Plus MASTER VOLUME! I still play 1180, but sitting down. The tone of 1180 is crazy good. The wife thinks I am crazy anyway, but I take 405 to all my shows, and I swore I wouldn't do that. but, I said that about 1180 too, so... whatever. Basses are ment to be played, not just looked at. How do you feel about your cocobolo shorty? Compared to 1180? I think we need to get together with all our basses and figure this out. Plus, then I would get to play your pimped hollowbody Guild.

The tone of 1180 is something special. I don't think I've heard another Alembic quite like it. However, my cocobolo shorty might be my favorite bass of all time. I've decided that I really like short scales. There are some things I miss about the midrange barkiness that a long scale can get with a back pickup, but the shorties have such a deep versatile tone that at the end of the day, what else could I need?

I've been kickin around this site for a few days now, and since this will be my first Alembic, how does the Series I compare to the Series II? neck, tone, sustain, weight? I like the looks of the series II as well so I'm just wondering. If I lean towards a fretless are there any better models to consider? I don't like to buy things mail order, because I can hear the subtle differences if I can sit down and play them. Thanks for any helpful tips you guys can provide.
