After long hours of going back and forth between keeping this bass and selling, I have opted to sell. I have moved over to the Chapman Stick since aquiring this bass and I just don't play it any more. I can't justify having such an amazing bass and not play it. It has been gigged once since I got it and has spent the rest of it's time in my home studio. This bass in in absolute mint condition. Serial number is 01MJ12696. I purchased it new from Bass Central in Orlando, FL back in March of this year. I am the only owner. The bass is long scale (34) with AXY Alembic pickups and preamp (Signature Electronics package). The knobs are vol/balance/tone/tone and a Q-switch for each pickup which gives you any bass sound you could possibly need. The neck is super fast and thin with mother of pearl ovals over an ebony board. The top wood is a gorgeous piece of book matched cocobolo that also covers the front and back of the headstock. Neck wood is maple and walnut and the body is mahogany. The bass also has the omega cut option. The Bass comes with the Alembic HSC designed for this instrument and all paper work, tools, etc. I am asking $3200 plus the buyer pay shipping which I estimate to be around $150-$175 depending on your location.New from Alembic you'd pay close to $6,000 for this bass. The cocobolo top alone is a $600 upgrade. I have also had custom made cocobolo knobs with maple dot markers made for the bass. The original knobs are also available if you want them. I will only ship to the lower 48. Payment by US Postal Money Order only. Serious inquiries only. Also, am planning to use some of the funds from this bass to buy a nice, but less expensive bass. If you've got a nice Alembic Essence, Epic or a Modulus or other decent bass, I might consider a trade plus cash deal on my bass. Let me know what you've got. No offers from overseas or third parties accepted. Email me for more pics.

Well ...you have to admit that the Mandarin as name for the bass add to the attractiveness of this offer!?!?!?
Really good looking! I hope you gave it a good thought and that she will find a good home!

As a side note, it was brought to my attention that I may have over-estimated the shipping cost. Should I find a buyer, we will work this out given the exact location of the buying party.

would you consider posting to the uk

Dave,
I might consider it. Of course I have no idea about the cost of doing that. I'd have to look into it if you were really interested in the bass. Let me know. Here's another pic of the instrument.(http://club.alembic.com/Images/395/6262.jpg)

Matt,do please look into it for me as im very interested in the bass,if i was to go ahead and purchase it i would pay the money directly into your account from the uk,ive sold acouple of basses overseas one to a guy in Germany and one to a guy in America and it always seems to be the quickest and hassle free method. speak soon

Hello, all! I will pay shipping on this bass to anyone meeting my asking price. This includes US, Canada, UK only. Thanks, Matt.
-
No takers. Price drops to $2950. A better deal will be hard to find on this bass. Of course, I must ask the buyer to pay shipping now that I've dropped my price.
-
I'm only looking for a straight sale rather than a trade at this point. So my price has become even more flexibile. Make me an offer I can't refuse!!
-
If I hadn't recently bought my Essence, I'd buy your bass.

I have two Essence basses that I might be willing to trade. I have a 95 4 string with vermilion top and a 98 5 string with quilted maple top. Both have hard cases. I would be willing to trade both for this bass or either plus cash. Let me know if you are interested. I would rather trade the 4 string plus cash but let me know what you think. Does this bass have LEDs on the neck? I can be reached at Modulust@cs.com (mailto:Modulust@cs.com)

Hello. I have decided that I'm just going to keep my bass. Anything else would be a compromise. Thanks to all who inquired.
-
Glad to hear that Matt! You will not regret it.

Hello,
Good you decieded to keep your bass. A very beautiful bass indeed and you're right; with an Alembic there are no compromises!! I'll get a Chapman Stick next summer but I keep all my basses even if I have a new instrument to learn.
BTW how is your cat reacting with the bass? I'd love to get a cat one day but I fear it might use my basses as a target for cat-attacks with exposed sharp claws, and I'd hate to see scratch marks on such a nice wood surface....So do you hide your bass or how do you manage to keep your cat off it?
bass regards

My cat shows no interest at all in my basses. I leave them exposed in a wooden stand that he has easy access to. For further temptaion the stand is right next to the fish tank. However his previous owner had him declawed so I haven't had much to worry about. Now my carpet covered speaker cabs are a whole different matter entirely. He tries to sharpen his non-existent claws on the grills and leaves his white hair all over the black carpet. I don't support declawing cats so I would suggest a black cat and cabinets with metal grills. Just a thought.

My cats show no interest in my basses either. Have ignored them completely for 10 years. They are not declawed, they are indoor/outdoor cats, have been for the last 8 years . I was afraid to let them out when they were kittens, and during that time( first 2 years), they did sharpen their claws on the black carpet of my Hartke cabinet ( which has now been turned into a wood-finish cabinet). That habit , though, stopped the moment they were able to go outside. Trees are their scratchpost of choice. I've had a carpet covered SWR for 4 years now and they haven't touched it once.

Cats ...cats ....cats????
Try a rabbit.
My kids had a dwarfrabbit a couple of years ago. In that time I played on a Alumabass/Mesaboogie combination for speakers. On a day I found the Mesaboogie making fuzz , screeks and hisses.
What it was?
I discovered that Bunny ate part of the rubber cable from amp to Mesa.
I prefer a cat!
Paul the bad one
BTW: rabbit taste great shimmered in Abbey-beer and onions.

My cats (3 of them) ignore the basses, but don't hesitate to jump into the cases when they are open.

Thankfully my 100 pound German Sheperd was never in a wood chewing stage. No doubt he could do a heckuva lot of damage. And if he even THINKS of lifting his leg near a guitar stand.......
-
Hm ...if I contact my chinese friend cook I'm sure I can get some nice recepies for dog. I bet you'll surprise your friends at the next BRBQ!

PS joking!!!! You know me!

i have a few cat scratches on the top of my martin, but they've ignored the electrics and the amps completely. However i do have a set of thiel speakers for my stereo with a very fine cloth covering which is ripped to shreds. I've noticed several dogs at other peoples houses have licked the martin as well.
-
Likewise, I have had cat scratches on a lot of speaker grills over the years. They're pretty respectful of the guitars, though.

Paul (The Bad One) - IMHO, eating rabbits is barbaric. They're sweet, adorable pets, which attach to their owners, and they're much smarter than I used to think! We (my wife and I) are temporarily taking care of my wife's friend's bunny. We love the pet so much that we think when my wife's friend finishes her studies end comes back to Warsaw, she won't get her bunny back! ;-)
I'd never eat a rabbit. For me it's the same as eating dogs or cats.
But... much as I love bunnies, I do prefer cats, too. ;-)

Do you still have this instrument for sale? I'm distinctly very interested in buying it and I know the most affordable shipping company in the country so that's not really an issue. Get back with me here's one question though it is stereo?

Hey Charles, this thread is 21 years old. But who knows??!! Doesn't hurt to ask.

LOL - based on the prices mentioned I was contemplating whether to quickly drain my bank account by a few grand, not having clicked on to the dates!

Good call, you'd probably regret it, however if you change your mind in the future for some reason and feel like trading for a Warr Phalanx (12 piezo 6 midi Zebra top), feel free to message me. Cheers!
