Title: Warwick Thumb 5 '87 UK
Post by: jakebass on July 04, 2007, 04:00:05 PM
I've had this basss from new, its a great instrument but now having bought an MK5 Deluxe i can no longer justify keeping it. It has a seven piece laminate thru neck and is bubinga and wenge with EMG pick ups, a very early example. I'm near London

Jake,
I have a Thumb 4 from 1987 which I selected directly at the factory in these days when the Warwick factory (still very small) was near to my hometown.
Their basses from that area are high quality instruments. You might think about keeping it?
BTW: Shortly after I bought this bass in 1987 they changed the bridge to an Alembic stlye one. I got the upgrade without extra cash some weeks after. I know that the Alembic basses had a big influence on the development of the Warwick basses.

Hi Harald, thanks for that info I knew it was early in warwicks life but I didn't realise quite how small a business it was in '87.I believe it was the first thumb 5 to be imported into the UK (thats what the dealer said) as you say its a high quality instrument, unfortunately it has to go to repay the money on my MK5
