Title: MK Signature Bass
Post by: scotty1 on September 20, 2009, 02:06:24 AM
I have an opportunity to buy a MK Signature 4 string. The serial number is 94MJ8403USA and it is in Birds-Eye Maple and Mahogany. Comes with an Alembic case and the price is ?2000.
I just need to know if this is fair, if the bass is legit (not stolen!), and also what the two switches do!!
I guess one is a Q Filter, not sure about the other?
I already have an Epic 5 which I love, but this semms a decent opportunity.
Can any of you more experienced Alembicians help please?

Cheers

Iain

Iain,
I think this price will be fair for an 1994 MK Signature.
The signature basses come with a two position Q switch for each pickup, you get two filter/Q switch combinations and each one is applied to only one pickup. This gives you the flexibility to apply the right tone to each pickup individually, possibly pulling out the lows from the neck pickup and the highs from the bridge

I agree with Ulf; if the bass is excellent condition, then that seems to be a very reasonable price for an MK in the UK.

Ulf's comments on the Signature electronics are right as well; there's also a description (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=276) in the FAQ section.

The serial number does not appear to be on the stolen list (http://www.alembic.com/info/stolen.html).
