Teach Your Children
( Crosby, Stills and Nash )

You, who are on the road,
Must have a code that you can live by.
    And so, become yourself,
Because the past is just a good bye.
    Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by.
And feed them on your dreams,
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

    And you, of tender years,
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by.
And so please help them with your youth,
They seek the truth before they can die.
    Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by.
And feed them on your dreams,
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.......

They said it better than could I

Mason's Children
Grcia/Hunter (Grateful Dead)

Mason died on Monday, we bricked him in the wall
All his children grew and grew,
They never grew so tall before
They may never grow so tall again

We dug him up on Tuesday, he hardly aged a day
Taught them all he ever knew,
They never knew so much before
They may never know so much again

Mason was a mighty man, a mighty man was he
All he said when I'm dead I'm gone, don't you weep for me
Always said when I'm dead I'm gone, don't you weep for me

The wall collapsed on Wednesday, we chalked it up to fate
All his children ran and hid,
They never hid so well before
Swore they'd never show their face again

Thursday came and Friday, with fires tall and bright
Thursday came then Friday, with buyers tall and bright
Mason's children cooked the stew
And cleaned up when the feast was through
Swore they'd never had such times before

Take me to the reaper man to pay back what was loaned
If he's in some other land write it off as stoned

(thanks to Edwin)

Taylor, nice pics. What kind of Gibson is the guitar player playing? Is it an SG or Melody Maker? Thanks.

Yes, it is a worn SG, 3 pickups with a 6- way selector switch, a LOT of different tones

Love the kids, love giving them back. I have been a full time teacher (high school) for 3 years and a step-parent with out being married (my gf has a 6 year old). Good stuff.

This (http://www.mandoweb.com/15-6983.jpg) is a Melody Maker, David - they were also made in double-cutaway, but those looked just like this otherwise.

Thanks, Peter. One of the best guitar players I know only plays the old Melody Maker -- with the body style in your link -- that he's had since he was a kid.

I have also seen some Melody Makers with the SG body style. Like this one.(http://club.alembic.com/Images/393/64491.jpg)

This is not a hijack of this really neat threadbecause the Melody Makers were student model guitars! Have y'all seen the reissues? You can get a USA Gibson Melody Maker for $350 +or-

Wow - that's a Melody Maker headstock, alright - I've seen many a MM, but never with the SG body.  Thanks for expanding my horizons, David.  Do you know what era that is?

And just to get back on topic:

Youngest son David on the left, with his buddies Robert Rush (on mandolin) & Alan (whose last name I can never remember).

My son Maxwell with my now sold Exploiter :-(

Max again, with my still present Distillate

Max with his very own first bass.

My daughter Amber at the piano. Both Amber and Max are in their twenties now, I need to find more recent photos. . . Max is still playing bass (rather well) and has a sweet black jazz bass.

Peter, 1966 (I think) until about 1970 (I think.) Gibson also had the double cutaway Melody Makers at this time. Gruhns has had two of the 60ish SG Melody Makers recently and both were gone before I got a chance to try them out.

The children on instrument pics are so cool!

....and the young adults with instrument pics are too cool as well!
