We did a little experiment recently when preparing a batch of Blaster plates for chrome plating. Mary had the brilliant idea to send some to the plater that does our blackened brass finish. They look pretty cool:

For now, we've only got 6 of these and I expect they won't always be in stock (but of course can always be custom ordered). This run of 6 I'm offering at the Club before they are put on our online store. In the store, they will be $135, but if you order one over the phone with your Club username, the price will be $115.
Since there's only 6, I'll respect call of dibs! like we've done before on the Club.

what would the postage be to the UK Mica?

Wow, that looks great! Brilliant idea, indeed! Kudos to Mary.

What do these do?
-
It attaches to the dashboard of your car, and you wire it to the carburetor. When you flick the switch, it increases horsepower by 37%; oh, and it sounds really cool (http://alembic.stores.yahoo.net/blaster.html) too.

Thank you Dave. What if my car is electric?
-
If you have an electric car, well then I'm just really impressed!

Nick,
It's a popular modification for F_nd_r Str_t_c_st_r guitars, created by the fine folks out SF way.

Although I don't have any non-alembic basses anymore, I just wondered if these blasters are any good for using on other manufacturers basses?
Have alembic ever made one for use on basses?

I have one on my Mongrel Telecaster Bass!!!

I've always been a bit confused about what these things do. Do they change the sound of the guitar to give it an alembic type sound or are they just a guitar signal booster?

I am a little confused, does it need to be used in conjunction with active pick-ups or does it come with it's own battery clip in the jack cavity?
-
Vince, postage is about $15.00 to the UK. They don't change the sound, just add gain. They only impact on the tone is that the capacitance of the cable is isolated, so when the Blaster is turned on, the tone won't change when you change lengths of cable, and the tone won't change when you change the volume control.
-
Nick, the Blaster works with the original pickups and electronics and has its own battery clip. There's a pictorial (http://www.alembic.com/support/blaster_photos.html) of my dad installing one if you want to see what you're in for.

Thank you Mica, I will be ordering one. And I hope to be able to come down to the factory soon with stars in my eyes.
