Yes, Alembics can even sound evil. Here's the evidence: http://www.myspace.com/panspark (http://www.myspace.com/panspark). The 1st two songs Kein Schritt zu weit and Tiefenrausch are recorded with my Orion-5 fretless and I am just recording further ones. I hope you like the german lyrics.

I wouldn't really call that metal, I'd call that alternative-rock.

Hi Werner, do you mean to say you subjected my poor Elan bass to heavy rock!!!!!

hahaha, I like the first song best.
Forgive my ignorance of that genre of music but the only German rock band I've heard before is Rammstein and their album Mutter and i can hear some similarities in the band sound. I may be wrong but that is my limited knowleged of that genre.
Especally Lass Mich Los
Dien Kaltes Hertz

Question?

Is AC/DC Heavy Metal, Heavy Rock, Something Else, Strictly AC/DC and nothing else matters?
....I have had bands I played in (back in the day) literally fight over the definition of genre of AC/DC music...

                    Discuss..........

@jazzyvee: no, your Elan never had to suffer ;-) That was recorded with the Orion 5 String Fretless I bought from brother Davehouck. And ... beeing compared to Rammstein... that's not the worst.

@stickk: you might be right. I am not very good in classifying our music.

@mike: That was perfectly right. :-)

In case you would like to brush up your german (might work as a good ice breaker meeting ladies at next Oktoberfest ;-) :

Dein kaltes Herz - Your cold heart

We did this song for a german initiative against sexual child abuse. It tries to give an impression of the feelings of an abused child. This is no easy stuff.

Lass mich los - leave me alone

After a long lasting love with a bitter end you still have a lot of feelings for your former love which you want to leave behind you ... but you still can't. That's about it.

re ac/dc...

i believe any great band is truly unclassifiable, as they incorporate a wide array of musical influences. eg beatles, stones, zepplin, etc.

i dont believe ac/dc is a great band but generally speaking, i would classify them as hard rock, moreso than heavy metal, although heavy metal would not be inaccurate, just less accurate.

i guess this then begs the question, what is the diff between hard rock and heavy metal.

the answer of course is...satan. didn't you guys watch tenacious d?

hey, i used to like this band called saga.  they are a toronto band from way back.  they became pretty popular with their 2nd album around 1980.  a few years ago i wondered whatever happened to them and discovered they are huge in germany and still going strong with something like 14 albums.

then again, david hasslehoff was a huge musical success in germany. at least they know their cars.

Jason; this is just a guess, but I suppose it could be the case that we were listening to stuff like Blue Cheer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FLr1lCjuhI) before you were born.  Hee hee !!

Wow, Dave that video appears to have some sort of primitive analog device for playing music off of what appears to be disks made of vinyl?

I have never seen anything like it, you guys must be old.

Not too far off thread, I did find quite interesting an interview with Lars Ulrich that I saw last night.  He apparently lives in the San Francisco area.

Jason Newsted has or had a house in Walnut Creek in a regular neighborhood. Lars and James have the crazy mansions in the North bay with cannons and stuff like that in the front yard.
Kirk has or had a house in Pacific Heights in SF. They have bought and sold their homes so many times I dont really know where they all live today.

Dont take the old guy jokes personal I will be 30 next month so I will be joining the ranks with you old guys.

My buddy miraculously got moved up to the front row for the Dalai Lama's recent talk at the Greek Theater in Berkeley - right in front of James Hetfield and his family! We are both in our mid-30s - well, I'm closer to 40 - but he couldn't help but gloat! ;)
