I'm coming to terms with the fact that the ergonomics of my Long scale Series I just make it impossible for me to comfortably play (the reach to the first position is just a little bit too much). I'd like to trade it for a Medium scale (Series I only). I prefer the classic look of the Standard point, but I would consider other body shapes (another Long scale that had a long upper horn would probably work as well).
As you can see, it's a beautiful bass (recently refinished) and it has the best/fastest neck of any instrument I've ever played. If I were only 6'2...

Hey Mike
Just curious, how long have you had the bass? Just wondering if you have given yourself enough time to get accliamted to the extra reach.
For my LS SI it was a good six months before I felt I was really comfortable with it.
Also, FWIW, being the owner of a LS SI and MS SII, I rather feel that the difference in reach between the two to first position is fairly insignificant, but thats me.

Very Nice Bass !

Tired of chasing it around the room to hit that first fret?
I had the same problem. Mica suggests wearing it more on your side. Works pretty well but took some adjusting
Good Luck,

You may be right... the LS to MS may not make enough difference to be of benefit. I've always played LS basses with no problem, so I guess my issue is with the Standard Point body. But that body just says Alembic to me.

Me too.

Mike, if it's any consolation I have a slight problem with the scale length as well and I am 6'2. Although I should play the bass with the neck pointing to the 1-2 'o-clock position to better facilitate the first position, I ultimately end up positioning the bass to my plucking hand position.

Mike, before you sell you may want to update your profile,
.....If I ever sell one, somebody come kick me in the n&%s....
