Hi! I'm close in obtaining a 1983 Alembic Stanley Clarke with Series 1 electronics.
The headstock has a crack but is pro repaired by local Alembic dealer.
I'm just wondering if anyone (preferably Europe, holland) is interested in swapping it for a Europa or Elan 4 / 5 or 6 string?
Cheers!

FC:
If you've never played a Series instrument before, I wouldn't be so quick about arranging a trade before you have the opportunity to put it through it's paces. Try it, I suspect you'll like it. VERY much. There is nothing like a Series instrument.

Thanx! I do love the idea of Series electronics, but i'm not sure if the scale length will work out for me. I've got a 32' scale Spoiler that works fine, maybe you're right and I should try it for a while.
But if anyone can make me an offer Ican't refuse...
-
Can you post some pictures. I might be interested if the price is right.
-
I'm in Europe and like angelboy I may be interested at the right price.
Again some pictures would focus the mind.

When the bass is mine I will post some pics. (on request A LOT!) It doesn't feel right to me posting pictures from the seller, I'm not selling the bass for him...
I'm going to see the bass next week, if i'm not buying I'll give you a link to the seller
Price is right and will stay right. Money Is not my motive at all, I just wanna end up with a very nice Bass that im comfortable with. I think the Spoiler and Elan are the best bass shapes ever and I already have the Spoiler. That's why I asked for an Elan, Europa is also fine.
Cheers!

Hello! well I went to see the Bass today. It was a very nice one and I can see why you guys are so fond of the series electronics, wicked! Sadly it was out of my financial reach... I brought my Fender Jazz Bass but couldn't get what I wanted for it. So the bass is still for sale! Location: Hilversum Holland . I'ts offered by the official Alembic dealer for the BeNeLux, so I guess oversea shipping won't be a problem. Here it is:

Well, lets chance this Thread into: Fender 1996 limited edition Anniversary Jazz Bass V (five string)for Alembic 4 string Elan / Europa?...
I think I'll just start a new thread, there will be pictures

Wow...that store has some *very* nice Alembics in stock. I've always loved the EVH model, but haven't seen that many in one place before.
If only I had several thousand to spare- I love buckeye and walnut tops!
Good luck on moving that Fender

That's actually not a bad price, even considering the weak state of the dollar. Wish I could get the pic to load...grumble grumble.
-
KFS-
be glad you can't get that pic to load. I've got the shakes here.....that EVH 5 is killing me softly~
If you think the US dollar is weak, do a conversion from NZ dollars to Euros. That will cheer you up. =)

tbrannon -- tried it running Internet Explorer. Yow. That's exactly what I was looking for before succumbing to a Turner, which is a damned good country and western bass but no Alembic Series 1.
I've e-mailed EVH with a trade offer. We'll see. ;)
-
I'll be living vicariously through you. Good luck-

I felt like I was in heaven today!
The sound was stunning... Maybe I should have my Spoiler upgraded to series I
The damage is repaired very well, and it's light weight! (short scale and semi hollow body)
Good luck!

EVH confirmd it was not stolen, he imported it himself back in '83
-
I saw on EvH site this bass has been sold!
Did anyone here get it?
Cheers F.C.

I guess someone must have made EVH a better offer than mine.
If this was Wilfred's pawn shop prize then I wonder how and when the peghead got broken?

Hi Adriaan, Edwin told me that somewhere in the eighties it was run over by a van. A freak accident. The headstock crack was there when I bought it at the pawnshop and still when I traded it at Edwin's. The repair must've taken place after that. I sometimes really miss that petite blonde, but thats life I guess...

Reminds me of George Carlin,....there was a freak accident today on I-10,....two freaks in a van ran over two freaks in a VW...
Wel, it was funny in 70's anyway!
-
Hi everyone.
I'm the one who bought it. I've always loved that bass ever since Wilfred came up with it. When it was for sale some time ago I missed it, I didn't even had the chance to check it out. But this time I did. Yes, a van ran over it so it has a very wide but thin body No, the bass is in great shape. If it wasn't, I would not have bought it. That simple......
Plus, it has that good ol' buttery 70's sound.

Hey Manfred! Gefeliciteerd!
Great Bass indeed!

Gefeliciteerd Manfred, zorg je een beetje goed voor d'r?
(Congrats Manfred, please take good care of her)

Hey Wilfred,
Don't worry, she's in good hands. I'll treat her well. I was surprised because if I didn't know the history of this bass, I wouldn't have noticed. There are a few strange things though. The adjustable nut had/has pretty big spacings, I think you can string the bass with four e strings. I'm thinking of replacing it but it doesn't do any harm to playability or sound, so, I don't know. What else, there was a very high frequency squeeking sound but after rotating the pots a lot of times, that seems to be gone. Last thing I don't understand is the e string bridge saddle, the gap is on the wrong side as if the saddle had been reversed but it wasn't. Maybe it has been replaced with a wrong one, it looks like a saddle for d 0r g string. I made an extra gap, or string hole or whatever you want to call it, for the e-string but it needs replacement someday.

Hey Tim,
good to hear from you. How are you? I'm glad you're still playing that bass. What kind of neck troubles did you have? Nothing major I hope?
Take care,
manfred
