Title: Orion Guitar For Sale
Post by: jalevinemd on May 08, 2006, 07:30:36 AM
Hey guys,

I periodically put this up for the newbies and anyone looking for the first time. You veterans can ignore the post.

I have a mint 2001 Orion guitar for sale. Beautiful burl redwood top (the only Orion made with one) with a single purpleheart accent body laminate. Other than minimal tarnish on the brass hardware, looks like it left Alembic yesterday.

Feel free to e-mail with any questions.

Hmmm what a tease... ;(  Kind of like posting a nude with the head cropped off.  It does have a headstock?  Just kidding...  Can you post a pic of the entire guitar? How much are you asking for it?

Thanks

Well...it's finally done. Today I packed up my Orion and mailed it to its new owner in California. I got a little sad, as it was my introduction to Alembic. At least now it will get played, which is what it's all about, right? So until my son's guitar is finished, I'm down to just one...my Little Bear.

Hopefully Paul will post some pics of the Orion in its new home.

Paul, you won't be disappointed, I have an orion guitar with a quilted maple top and it sounds incredible. My Fender Strat Ultra is in semi retirement since I got my mint condition 10 year old Orion guitar. It's so clean crisp and full ranged its incredible.  I often wonder what a series guitar would sound like. Maybe when I'm next in Frisco I'll get to hear one.

I have an SF-2 but its in my bass rack so haven't tried it with the Orion yet.
Maybe one day I'll give it a bash.

3.  Try the SF-2 with your guitar, You'll like it.  A lot!

Oops, please forgive my lingo. I will try to remember that in future. Thanks for the invite to try your guitar. My band were supposed to be touring California this this month but it looks more and more unlikely at the moment. If it happens well I'm sure we will be in San Francisco area so will let you know.

Cheers

Jonathan, thank you for offering me the chance to own this fine instrument, and thanks for your packing efforts too!  My USPS carrier, who is also my neighbor, is watching out for it.  It should be here toward the end of this week.

I'll be watching closely for climate change effects, as this guitar will be going from Chicago humid to California dry.  Oh, and Jazzyvee, the first thing I will do is use the trim pot to drop the preamp gain to 50%.

Olie, sometimes it's good to get away from computers for a week isn't it?  There will always be another...there will always be another...

Makes me wonder what we did before the internet. Next thing you know they have a device that allows to punch a few numbers and actually TALK to a person in another state.
Bet it looks even better in person.

Foth, I guess you have been reading my threads about the problem of finding an overdrive unit for it.
Since all that trouble I had, I have now requested a Fender Twin amp for the back line when we go on the road. The last few gigs I've taken my own just to be on the safe side and the overdrive channel on my twin is just fine.
I've also got a Line 6 Pod XTLive unit which use but not the if I have a good valve amp with an overdrive channel. I still haven't found a really good overdrive sound on the XT, they all sound far too harsh but I'm working on the parameters.

I decided to use a boss Line switcher as well to keep the Pod out of the line until I want to use a sound on it. I dont like the clean sound of the Xt it's a bit lifeless and lacks punch.

The Orion is a fantastic instrument.

Paul,

The P.O. told me you should have it by tomorrow. I hope you don't have to suffer until the end of the week. I don't think I can take the waiting either!

Regards,

Jonathan

I've had this guitar for 3 days now.  I feel like it's the first time that I've actually heard my electric guitar.  All notes are equally represented across the entire fretboard.  Coolest of all, I can hear every note of every chord, even those with open strings.  It's clearer than an acoustic guitar!  It's hard to fathom how different this guitar is from all other electric guitars.

Nice collection of alembics there. I have to agree with your choice of Mesa boogie for bass rig. When I first got my orion It took me a couple of weeks of regular playing to get used to the string spacing and slightly narrower neck width.

I had a look at the nut measurements for both the orion and the strat I'm used to playing and there is not much difference on paper but in the playing that small amoung seems to make a big difference.

Awesome guitar.

Jazzyvee:

I know exactly what you mean.  I contemplating selling my Electrum as the string spacing is just a little too narrow.  I brought my '61 strat to the factory and had them copy the neck for my in-progress Further.

Paul:

Nice line up.  I'll bet you're having a LOT of fun.  Alembic guitars really are a different animal, but if you appreciate clean sound and incredible presence, there is nother like them.

Paul,

Glad to see the Orion safe and sound. It's strange, though, to see pictures of it in different surroundings. Enjoy it in good health.
