Title: Musicmaster Bass

IF I'm not out of line here, I thought I'd mention a friend of mine is selling a late 90s/early 00s Squier Musicmaster bass.  I know there's more than a few short scale fans here, so I thought I'd run it past you.
 
Not quite Olympic White with matching headstock, single coil straight pickup (ala the original Precision Bass style) with vol and tone, elephant-ear keys, rosewood fingerboard, string through the back of the body.  REALLY good shape, close to mint.

No, crag, but I tell you what:  I NEVER realized Squier was spelled s-q-u-i-e-r and NOT s-q-u-i-r-e till I was doing a web search one night and getting nowhere fast!  Really may be the SECOND most mis-spelled guitar brand name after Olympic . . . whoops!

Wasn't it actually the nmae of a string company in the Midwest that Fender had a relationship with or bought?

Go to www.fenderjapan.co.jp/ (http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/) (No English text, unless you run it through the Google or other translator).  Squier of course makes Fender brand instruments at all price points, the most notable I can think of offhand being the SRV Strat.
 
The story goes that Fender bought the Japanese concern that was making their nightmare 'lawsuit' guitars to eliminate this problem, and purchase some expertise in the process, as these were much better axes than the fledgling Shultz-era Fender was building as it  was just getting on its feet.  In the first year or so following the Schultz group's buyout from CBS, it success was by no means guaranteed.
 
I always remember the Squier Strat, Tele, PBass, and JBass of the late 80s that retailed for about $300.  These were the true first step that put Fender back in its own vintage reissue business, and were AMAZING guitars at that price point.
 
Of course these days, Squier-branded goods come from even China as the article states, but the Japanese Squires over the years have been terrific values.

On of the ways I've scored some nice JV or SQ Fender Squier's was to query the mis-spelled version on eBay.  Fewer bidders, better prices.  Now eBay gives some suggestions when your spelling is nearly correct.  Using the mis-spelled version allowed me to purchase many misplaced items.  Michael Jordon, the Basketball player has some very very valuable cards, Jerseys etc for sale on eBay...or was it Michael Jordan?
