Well It is time to let go of my Bass I got from Andy West back in 1984. This is the bass that recorded most all of the Dixie Dregs albums, here is a link to an article Andy wrote about the bass.
http://www.andywest.com/alembic.html (http://www.andywest.com/alembic.html). The neck was reworked and customized by Alembic with an inlay via John Paul Jones. It also has one of the first midi pickups for bass installed. This truly is a one of a kind! I am asking $6400.00. I will post some pics soon.

Love Andy, one of my all time favorites By the time I got to meet him he was playing the headless Aria 6 string with the tremolo on it though.
You should consider putting this up on talkbass once the Alembic folks have emptied their couches of change and hundrded dollar bills

I saw this bass in action in the late 70s a few time. Killer, killer tone. I think I also played it in Cambridge, MA once. There was a music story in the early 80s that said that the Alembic they had was Andy's. I saw him with the Steinberger, as well, but I didn't like the tone as much as the Alembic.

I love this bass, and your right it has killer tone. I was talking to Andy when he visited a couple of weeks ago and he was telling me that the only other Alembic he had was a fretless model he used on a couple songs and that he doesn't remember where he sold it. I bought this one from him in 1984 when I was lucky enough to take lessons from him. I also have his Steinberger sitting here..
