You're killing me with this one. This is a SCREAMING deal on a beautiful bass. Wish I had the funds to make this happen. Good luck, Reid!

If I hadn't firmly resolved to do a custom order this year, this bass would be mine NOW. Hang in there Reid, someone will jump on this beauty.

Beautiful bass! I will some day own a 5-string Alembic when I can justify the price (after paying for 2 kids in college). I currently own an '89 Persuader 4-string and an Ibanez 5006 Prestige 6-string. By reading all the postings about the tonal description on your thread, I'm curious about the Fat Boy pickup you added and what it does to the tonal signature of the Elan? I haven't looked at them much but they seem like a model that I would like to know more about. Being all light woods, can you get the deep lows with the B-string to drop bombs on the passive listeners? :-)

Thank you guys for the kind comments!
@ Toby, I know you?ve been a fan of the bass for some time. Hopefully, someone will buy it and put you out of your misery! LOL
@ Greg, I?ve been through the ?I?m going to do a custom this year no matter what? blues myself. I understand and hope you are able to ?get ?er done.?
@ Frank, As far as the Fatboy, it adds an aggressive edge to the sound of the bass. Joey, BigRedBass on the board, describes the AXY as being like a studio monitor. It is very clean, even polite. I like that description. The Fatboy is clean, but sees more of the string due to its wider coil. It is louder and adds (this is MY interpretation) some grit, or as I?ve said repeatedly, aggression to the sound. This bass being solid maple is already aggressive sounding. Every few years on the board, someone will start a thread about installing Alembic Activators into a Rickenbacker. I thought about that on a few occasions, myself. Then, I realized one fine day, that I had that combination with the Elan, a solid maple, neck through instrument with Alembic Activators! As for the B-string, it?ll shake the walls. I play through an ACME Low-B cabinet and every 5 string I?ve played into that box has sounded ?room shaking? wonderful. The Elan is no exception.
Thanks again for looking!
