This is a pretty complicated offer.  The instrument appears to be the equivalent of an SC Signature Deluxe with quilted maple top/back instead of cocobolo.

First, note that the eBay auction will cost you about 25% more than your high bid, and the direct auction 20% higher.  Buyer's Premiums are charged as an additional fee above your bid price.  This would suggest that bidding on the eBay version is just a way to throw away some money.

Then, even if you win the online auction, it says that there will be an in-person auction where you could still be outbidded.

Finally, they claim a $10K+ estimated value.  Does that seem a bit high to anyone else?  I would expect this instrument without the signature on it to trade in the $2500 to $3000 price range depending on age and condition.  I wouldn't have thought that Stanley's signature would carry that kind of value.  The bidding is pretty low at the moment, but it's early in the process.

Their estimate seems a little high to me but it is a nice bass and the signiture is worth some additional premium. I also noticed the 24.5% buyers premium. And I thought 10% at the last estate sale I went to was a bit much.

This bass at $10,000 or more seems well overpriced to me but who knows. A fool and his money soon parts! Good luck to anyone who bids!

Damn! For that price, you can spec your own brand-new Series and afford the show where you can get Stanley to autograph it for you, LOL!. Heritage is smokin' rope with the price on this one. My apologies to Stanley, but I think he'd have to no longer be with us for his autograph to be worth THAT much.
Just MHO.

That was my thought, too.  Unless I am mistaken, I don't think he'd charge you to sign your bass.  Until he does, or can no longer autograph things, his signature won't be worth a heck of a lot.  Even then, $10K?

Wow!!  If that's worth $10K, what's this one worth?

No, I am not interested in selling this, but the question just has to be asked!!

Keavin asked
where is this bass?,,,,is it still in your closet...

Naw.  It's on the guitar stand waiting for its next workout.  I have 5 basses and I play 'em all.

Peace,

James

Well, the bass that started this thread apparently didn't sell at auction.  There is now an $8365 asking price on it, which includes almost 20% fee to the auction house.

I still don't think it's a good value, but it is still there...

Well the last update says they were accepting offers through May, 08. It will be interesting to see if goes back on auction again.

Dan; I seem to recall seeing a couple of basses on Ebay which had been signed by Stanley, and I don't recall that the signature added anything to the value based on the bidding.  But then I don't remember things very well and I could be wrong.
