gonna speak to vakl about possibly upgrading the elctronics
i was looking at that series 1 on ebay but i have too many concerns and non replied to emails form the seller.
mica said iwas looking at 1200 is an upgrade was needed on the series... too much and the silence form the seller is deafening,,, its a sign bud!
-
i saw your posting in another thread and when i saw the pickup arrangement on this was not the norm... well whats wrong with having a 4 string..
and the seller assures me its quite the looker in person...
be nice to see what happened to the vermillion top after 20 years...

Off topic slightly - I got JGB live at shoreline yesterday. Very nice concert. Only issue I have is that I can hardly hear John Kahns bass. Jerry looks very happy in this film.

JGB's Shoreline is a nice disk...strong first offering from the JG Estate.
Congrat's on your new bass Flax. Be sure to tell us how it is...post pix and all that happy horsepucky, LOL!

Hi Jeff,
nice bass!
as a fellow persuader owner w/P & J pups, pls post upgrade details. it will save duplicating inquiries to alembic. in a differnt vein, how big a difference (weight/size) is this bass compared to your Bal K? thanks for the insight!
jim b..
-
dont have it yet jim
the bal k is round 9lbs.. havent a clue on the persuader...
do you live in ct too?
-
Jeff,
oh yeah, born, raised, and... more than likely will be planted here, LOL. which by the way, welcome to the state. hope your move and relocate went well. if i can assist with any CT nuances/info, give a scream. in the meantime, lets hope that new alembic arrives soon.

need a place to play out some r&r
and would like to put a band together,,,
open mikes are ok too
been to the boxcar and georgetown salloon
someone mentioned the avenue in bridgeport..
-
Seems like there was a place called Black Eyed Sally's that had an open mic in Hartford.
But, well, it's Hartford. Oh really, you work at an insurance company?

Jeff
Brad I believe is right about B E Sally's, and ins. co.'s. I'd be careful around bridgeport, a bit rough, think old west gun slinging etc... My .02 $ would be to check current advocate (free paper) for clubs having open mikes, people/bands looking for others. Oh, if you drive up to New Haven, Chris Sewell alembic rep @ g guitars may have some leads to people/bands...in your area. Hope this helps, I dont't get out much since health problems put me in a wheelchair. Oh well, more time to lurk here, and dream of that perfect bass. Last after thought, here's G Guitars ph# 1-866-508-5550.

glad you got it safe and sound. i saw from the tracking UPS came thru right on schedule. i'm glad you feel the same as i did-----i never exaggerate the beauty of one of my basses. it's every bit as beautiful as my mark king coco bolo. the knobs came off my mark king and, yes, they're coco bolo knobs. i thought they went perfectly w/the vermillion. i got in an argument w/a non-bidding so-called expert when the auction was still going. he told me i was wrong about it being vermillion and said it was coco. the vermillion has taken on a coco appearance w/age. it is an extraordinarily beautiful grain w/a really beautiful flow to it. anyway, in arguing w/this guy, i came up with a term for people who just want to argue about alembics to the point where it ceases to be an academic discussion and devolves into a i have to be right all the time kind of mess----------i shall henceforth refer to them as ALEMBITCHES. you know much more about alembics than i do and you can clearly see it's a vermillion. i'm glad you enjoy it. the sound is very signaturelike. please let me know how the conversion to series electronics goes. that would truly turn a gorgeous bass into a one of a kind work of art.
-
if i could find my damned string winder i could throw on my TI's flats
someday i will get a price from the ronmeister for the active controls
actually this shape gives me a pretty good idea of how susan wants to do the wings on the tribute...
-
LOL! Paul, great description of the so-called experts...I would have used another adjective beginning with 'a', but I like yours better.
Jeff, nice acquisition...good luck!
Chris

hi, chris. actually, i'm pat; not paul. btw, that's a gorgeous JPJ you've got. i can better define what an ALEMBITCH is. it's someone who just won't let it alone. i'm frequently wrong when it comes to alembics. i've only owned them for a year. so, i'm a novice but i read everything i can about them and i'm trying to become educated. when i'm wrong; i'm wrong, but i don't need someone rubbing my nose in it. when i'm right, i really don't see any point in continuing a debate. an ALEMBITCH doesn't rest until he's proven just HOW wrong you really are and demonstrated a haughtiness in doing so or who won't just go away when they know they're wrong. i get paid to win arguments in court and have for 25 years. i hang around alot w/other lawyers. at lunch over a bottle of good wine, i refuse to spend my time arguing over the final score of a football game that occurred in 1969 or who threw the winning pass. in that venue, the equivalent of an ALEMBITCH is the person who spends a week on the internet looking that crap up so that the next time you all meet for lunch, he can continue an argument no one really cares about. in other words, it's the person who debates how many angels fit on the head of a pin; the equiavlent of an ethnocentrist when it comes to alembics.
-
Sorry, Pat...alot of Pauls around here (and one too many pints of Guinness consumed last night!), so I stand corrected.
Pretty nice 'previous Alembics' collection; you're not giving up all of your Alembics, are you?
-
i really didn't mean to correct you because that would make me an ALEMBITCH. i've still got my mark king coco bolo w/custom wood knobs. the custom knobs looked better than the original coco bolo knobs, and the coco bolo knobs looked beautiful on the persuader. i wanted flax to be happy and it just looked so beautiful w/those knobs, so i let them go w/the bass, but i will never sell my mark king. i love that bass too much and gave up 2 other alembics to fund its purchase, along w/my daughter's college tuition which came due at the same time i found the mark king. btw, is it possible to consume too many pints of guinness? i've never found that number! remember, in heaven there is no beer; that's why we drink it here.
