Isn't this the GGuitars bass that was pulled from EBAY because of the Alembic MAP policy?
-
I.e., This bass right here:

Here'a a quote from the seller:
The bass is perfect, and I am authorized by Alembic to sell this inatrument complete with warranty. Feel free to inquire with Alembic about Trevor Lindsey. I was also their clinician for 20 years. You are welcome to call me at the shop number I emailed to you. Unfortunately, I can not do a lengthy layaway, and your offer of $5,000.00 is way too low. I have much more money into the instrument at my wholesale cost. This is however an outstanding instrument of the finest caliber, and you would be very pleased with it.
Anybody know if this guy is legit or full of sh*te?
-
Trevor is TOTALLY legit, and a long time friend of the family. Last saw him at Mica's wedding where he was up on stage jamming. He's a hell of a player too.
Valentino
-
whats a MAP policy?
-
MAP = minimum advertised price
Many manufacturers set minmum prices (or maximum discounts of list) that dealers can advertise for products. Customers may, however, negotiate a lower price with the dealer.
-
Thanks, Val.
I'm just wondering why this guitar was still on the GGUITARS site while this guy had it on EBAY. I'm assuming it was wholesaled to this guy. Then the first auction was pulled due to other dealers complaining that the price was too low, even though the new auction is identical (BIN = $5995), save for the opening bid price (now $5495 vs. $5295). Then again, $5k is WAY too low of a price.
I'm confused, LOL!
-
Anybody have Trevor's email address or contact #? I can't access my EBAY acct. and I'd like to make him an offer on the bass. Unlike some of those that wrote him, I have the cash.
-
Hi, Kevin,
seems that BIN has now increased to USD 6.995. Seems strange to me...
Speicky
-
Me too! I certainly wouldn't mind owning a Series I for half price, even though it's really not my speed (excepting the 5A quilt top/back lams) but it appears this guy is playing a guess my price game which I have little patience for.
Trevor appears to have missed that at these prices, customers want what they want. Unless this is your exact dream bass, and/or you're getting it for a killer deal, I imagine most of the people in the market for a hi-buck Series bass will pay full boat and custom spec a new order themselves.
Just my $0.02.
-
C'mon..nobody here has the guy's contact info?
-
Hmmmm..not one bid and 7hrs. to go. I'm surprised EBAY hasn't pulled the auction with all the offers to the seller documented in the questions area. As far as I remember, offering to buy off the block is verboten in EBAY-land and is supposed to result in suspension of your membership.
-
The auction has ended with no bids. It has now been put back on the blocks and has currently 11 bids, the highest at $3001.
-
And with no reserve it's definitely going to go this time!
-
I just realized that...and no buy it now price!
Now I'm really confused. He rebuked offers of $5300 stating he has too much invested at wholesale to take that little, raised the BIN price twice, and now has a no-reserve auction with no min. starting bid??? What gives?
I tried contacting the guy...no response. I tried once more today...that'll be my last attempt...I'm not begging someone to take my money, LOL!
-
he ended the bid..
he accepted an offer
i had bid 3k and was high bid and after i emailed to ask what he was looking for
he emailed me after he accepted someones offer....so he probably lost out
-
it went for 5260
if trevor had waited i wasd ready to pay more
-
That's not too shabby for a bass that goes for $12k MSRP at today's pricing. Even adjusting for this year's substantial 15% price hike, that's still a nice deal.
-
Anybody know if an Alembic Club member got this bass?
-
Why, yes! An Alembic Club member did get this bass! Who you might ask? Why, that'd be me! As one of the site's resident cheapskates, I made Trevor an offer he couldn't refuse, LOL! Actually, he made me a deal I couldn't refuse. New Series I's don't come much cheaper than that! I'm awaiting the FedEx Ground truck with baited breath as I write.
Seriously, Trevor Lindsey is a super-nice guy and it was a pleasure to deal with him. He was up front and a man of his word.
BTW, ck out his link on the Ken Smith Bass web site...he's a Smith endorsee. There are soundbytes of his playing...quite impressive with his quick, funky slap-style technique:

The bass sold on Nov 10. Apparently, by Nov 13 Kevin had completely forgotten that he had bought said bass. One can only speculate as to the type of activities that might have led to such a substantial memory lapse. Five days later on Nov 18 Kevin suddenly remembers that it was indeed himself that had made the purchase, probably when he was reviewing his bank statement and saw the sizable depletion.
-
Now, now, be nice guys, LOL! I didn't wanna let the cat out of the bag until I got it. Trevor wanted cash, and I happened to catch him at the right time. He was very cool about the whole thing. I figured this was the only chance I was gonna get for a wholesale or better price on a new Series, so I went for broke. It just happened to work out. Sorry Flax.
-
Kevin,
nice score!
Jeff, oh well...
Dave, Tooo funny!
-
Personally, I was shocked that he reponded to me and accepted my offer. He actually trashed my original email message because I forgot a title. He called me after my second email and made the deal. Lot's of people wanted the thing, but those that made offers didn't have the cash, and I did. After it didn't sell on the first auction, he was actually willing to let it go for $5k or otherwise keep it. He paid $5300 for it and he named his own price, which included shipping via FedEx ground.
-
you********* you dont even play bass.......lol
frazenrackencrackenfracken
and i offered 6 after he took your offer
-
Way to go Kevin - I hope you didn't use your Fur Peace Ranch money, though!
Actually, you could go to FPR a few times on what you made by buying this bass :-)
Frank
-
Flax: I play bass...just not very well, LOL!
Oh, this purchase won't deter my going to FPR. I wanna be in Jack's class just to see the expression on his face when he tries to avoid an Alembic conversation, LOL! I can just see it now...Hey Jack, whatever happened to YOUR Alembic?....Um, Er, Eh, moving on....this is a fine example of walking the basses, LOL!
-
let me know when you're going - I might book myself in as well! :-)
Comedy & music all in one package...
-
Everytime I look at that Series, Jack's great bass line from Feels So Good (from 30 Secs. Over Winterland) runs through my head, LOL!
-
Series I update:
The thing is great...much lighter than I expected and the narrow taper neck is even better than the one on my Custom Orion. The Series electronics are easier to use than I expected, but repeatability of settings will be tough. The big standard point body is growing on me and the lack of tummy/elbow cut aren't the detriment I'd thought they'd be as the body depth is relatively slim. I'm a big guy so the bass doesn't swim on me, and I can pretend I'm early 70's Lesh or Casady when I pose in front of the mirror with it on, LOL! Notice I said PRETEND, LOL! You can be one ugly MO and no one will notice when your wearing this beast...it's size, shape and 5A Quilt top command all the attention.
The top mount jacks, the outboard power supply and requisite cable, and the substandard yet expensive OHSC are the only minuses, IMHO. I was actually a little surprised at the relative lack of standard features (mostly aesthetic) on such an expensive bass, but I guess that's why the Series I starts at around $11k and the Series II goes for $15k.

1977 series I short scale (not fernandez)http://cgi.ebay.com/1977-ALEMBIC-SERIES-I-BASS-STANLEY_W0QQitemZ7370719237QQcategoryZ4713QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (http://cgi.ebay.com/1977-ALEMBIC-SERIES-I-BASS-STANLEY_W0QQitemZ7370719237QQcategoryZ4713QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

That one's a player's workhorse! I wonder how much it'll fetch?
