Title: Epic 5-string on ebay
Post by: sam on May 23, 2006, 09:28:33 AM
Hello everyone,

I'm currently looking for an Epic, Essence or Orion 5-string. What do y'all think about the following offer?

 Epic 5-string (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7403837154)

Is the price alright?

Sam, I posted a thread for a Five string Epic on 3/21/06 which is at Music Room Guitars in Knoxville, Tennessee. The tel. # is 865-584-0041 and ask for Brad. The bass looks similar to the one you posted w/ some knicks and dings as this bass has been played but it still sounds and feels great. Needs a little cleaning of the brass and comes with a case although it is not original. He is only asking $1,000.00 dollars and it's a pretty good deal if you ask me.

It's probably a bit high, but it also looks like it has a filter and Q-switch instead of bass and treble controls, which is a bit unusual for an Epic.

The Tennessee bass is a great deal.

I agree that it is a bit high despite having the filter, you could probably get the one @ Music Room, send it back to Alembic for the upgrade and still come out ahead. It really is a good deal, I mean where are you going to get that kind of quality for a grand or less?

2400wattman, thanks for pointing out your previous thread. (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=12808)

Hm, does Music Room Guitars have a webpage or something? I googled for it, but without succes. Since I live in Switzerland, I don't feel like doing business by phone. In addition, I would like to see some pictures of it. But it does sound good, though.

Sam, I understand you wanting to see the bass, although Music Room does not have a web site that I know of, I'm sure Brad would be happy to e-mail some pictures of the bass to you. As I said before there is some wear on this one but it's not that bad, one of the pots is a little loose(an easy fix) but I can't remeber which one. Let me put it this way, if it was a four string I would already have it but I have one five string and that really is enough for me i'm just not that into fiver's. If you are really interested call Brad, he is a very friendly guy and I'm sure he would be glad to help you. I'm telling you man this is a reeaall gooood deal.

The ebay listing's description is lifted entirely from the Alembic site; there is no description of the actual bass for sale.  Interesting sales strategy.

And I agree, the price on the ebay bass is a bit high.  However, the seller appears to be a retail dealer and prices from dealers are generally higher than from individuals.

The bass appears to be in exellent condition; and if it is, and if the condition is important to you, then that's worth a premium.  But if you are patient, you can probably get an Essence in excellent condition for less money.

There being no text, there is of course no mention of a case.  Inclusion of a fitted Alembic case would be worth a premium over a bass with no case.
