hi everyone. i recently decided that i definetly need an alembic bass, since everyone is telling that the sound of an alembic bass is just fabulous. also most of alembics looks good too ( lol :D )
anyways, it seems to be quite expensive, but i sopose i could get the sum during the year.
so, i think you guys could help me. well, i was thinking about an alembic spoiler / persuader black model. it suites me about the cost, the look and the sound (i checked some on youtube)
i have't decided should i take 5 or 4 string model.
i play metal, and i surely would enjoy the deeper tone. sustain would be awesome too.
if you COULD, please write down some thoughts, maybe offers. thank you.
(oh and sorry about the grammar, I'm not english, so be patient while reading :D )

Labas Lauris, sveiki atvyke!
I think you've done your homework - Spoilers and Persuaders are great instruments and much more modestly priced than the higher end models (Series instruments).
I think you'll find that 5-string Spoilers and Persuaders are much more rare than 4-string models, and the price is accordingly higher.
The black finish is also a less common attribute, but you may happen across one in a natural finish with a darker wood like walnut that might suit your tastes.
Tone is very subjective, but I find my Distillate to be extremely versatile, from a full crystal-clear ring to a muted thump. I'm not much of a metal fan, but I believe both Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted have used Alembics with Metallica.
Best of luck in your search!

(P.S. - my family's surname was Laureckiu until they arrived in America from Lithuania about a century ago. Cool to see some Lithuanian blood here on the Club)

actually Cliff Burton AND Jason Newsted both used Spoilers at one point(Newsted also had a zebrawood Persuader he used in '89) converted Series II for A LOT of money, you'll also find that Danno uses Alembics for metal and so does Flip who is in a Metallica tribute band, so Spoilers and Persuaders are good for metal

Damn right!
Here's a nice one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Alembic-bass-4-1983-model-w-case_W0QQitemZ120499841699QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item1c0e59aaa3 target=_blank)
Play that trough a full tube rig (Ampeg/Mesa) for some serious Metal tones :-)
Welcome here and good luck!

thanks everyone. I sopose this model will suit me well. For the lower price, i think i will take used one, since it's way cheaper.
It makes me shake 3 times and a half when i think about when i will take it to my hands :D

I play in a punk/sludge band and my Distillate works wonders, even when I'm not...Tony.

hey. one more question about other bass i found.
it's called Alembic Elan. I would like to have it 5 string model. maybe someone has it? if you can post some photos and posts about it, since i haven't found anything, just only how awesome it is :D (i trully believe it's awesome)
maybe you can describe the sound, the cost i may deal with, advantages and disadvantages and so on.
extra big thanks
