I would be very wary of this.
I'm not aware of Jerry ever using a four speaker cabinet. Dozin' (http://www.dozin.com/jers/rig.html) shows him with a three speaker cab, and the wall of sound had two speaker cabs for the guitars. Here's (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8239) a pic of the wall: the stack to the left of the vocal cluster was for Weir's guitar. Jerry had an identical stack.
The weird quality of the photo of Jerry using it makes me think that it's faked too.

Yes it is a weird auction.
However, (I have to check when I get home) I have vid from Duke University in 77, and the closing of Winterland, and the Dead Ahead vids all show a 4 speaker cab.
But I'm relying on memory at the moment, only 80% reliable :P

Buddy Cage has a similar 2x12 cab from the WOS era which I've seen up close and played thru. From the looks of it, both are of the same build quality (open back, bananna jacks, etc etc).
From memory, I am pretty sure Jerry had a 4x12 cab like this one, except that the bottom speaker was missing...
All in all, I'd say that this cab is definitely from the Wall, but may or may not be Jerry's..... Every now and then a similar piece from the wall shows up..... regardless whether it was specifically Jerry's, the Dead still played thru it.....

Does the speaker box behind Jerry have a black inset, large road handle? Does the box in the auction? Have you ever lifted a box of four 12 JBLs? It is very heavy, and casters on the bottom of the box would make it to wobbly, especially is something were to be stacked on top of it. Could the box have been made to look like the one in the picture by a fan some time ago (wood looks pretty aged)? The brackets holding the speakers in are placed non-symmetrical - being a speaker freak, I would not put pressure on a speaker's frame in a non-symmetrical pattern, as it would tend to warp the frame over time. Would a professional have been so stoned as to not drill the bracket holes in a symmetrical pattern, like the box behind Jerry looks like?
Who can really say if this box is authentic or not? A roadie who hauled it around, or the person who made the box, or a person who used the box on stage could. Without reliable evidence, I would not mess with this at all. With considerable verifiable evidence, I doubt I would bid much of anything, as something is only worth what someone is willing to pay . . . I would love to have a Lesh bass, but a trashed-out Jerry box (Not!) would not get me going that much. To each their own is a good thing.
Note: 500 posts, and I still can't spell worth a @&%&#$!!! No wonder I got B's all through my university stint, and never got accepted to MIT. Well, lack of IQ is more probable. But like the winner of the above listed auction, let me have my illusion, too . . . .

When I saw Jerry (many, many, many times), he had a 3 speaker cab. Dozin.com confirms this

A close inspection reveals that the dozin.com picture looks remarkably similar to the ebay picture Everything, equipmentwise, appears identical EXCEPT the speaker cab. Can you say photoshop?
If anybody's interested, I have several old T-shirts that were actually in the same room as Jerry and probably contain some of his DNA molecules that were wafting through the air! LOL

Jerry used a variety of speaker configs. Here's (http://online-discussion.dhenderson.com/SteveKimock/viewtopic.php?t=694&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15) a thread discussing JBL D-130 speakers from the Steve Kimock discussion board. Near the bottom of the page one of Jerry's 4x12 cabs is discussed.
BTW - Wall of Sound speakers - Hard Trucker cabs pop up from time to time all over the place. They used to be quite affordable, even if not very practical. Nice tie-dyed covers too!

Oh - and by the way - I have what I'm pretty sure is the milk crate under the speaker cab in the ebay pic.

Read the Q & A's. The seller claims he got it from Ken Kesey's computer room. Seller also admits this is not the same cab as in the pic - he says Jerry had three and the one for sale is a different one from the one in the picture. Also, the seller had to cancel his paypal account. Buyer beware!

Since I got several emails about it, I asked my dad about this auction. He said the labels and appearance make a convincing story and they probably did travel around with the Dead - lots of stuff did. It appears to be an early Hard Truckers cabinet. They did lots of experiments, and so it's plausable.
The ones we made were constructed differently. The hardware looks similar to the ones we used to
make, but these do not have the finish that we usually made.
One thing my dad noted was that he felt the long span of wood without much reinforcement would vibrate quite a bit.

Yo Bob and Bill! I don't come around much anymore, as I am ashamed of the number of Alembics I have under my roof. The current number stands at zero! However, a nice looking coco bolo Mark King just popped up on eBay, and I am seriously thinking of jumping it - which translates to I bid the minimum on it, and will swoop it the last 15 seconds of the auction - Maybe. . . . Mine, mine, mine!!! I definitely have had the Lembic fidgets since I have not held one for so long, and nothing else fills the void. Hope I win and start spending time round these parts again. In the mean time, take care and have fun guyz!

I ended up spending less money on a guitar. I don't know what I would have really done with the cab anyway. That's a big hunka memorabilia.
